After Roswaal returned to the mansion, he immersed himself in creating items that could prevent Emilia's Witch Factor from affecting anyone who looked at her. Subaru, Otto, and Garfiel avoided seeing Emilia directly, following Roswaal's advice. As a result, Emilia mostly stayed confined to her room or covered herself with a bedsheet whenever she moved around the mansion. Petra took on the responsibility of looking after her, ensuring she had everything she needed. Meanwhile, Beatrice outright refused to help find a solution for Julius, telling Subaru that Julius had tried to kill her. Feeling torn, Subaru decided to give up on pushing the issue, hoping that Julius might recover on his own.

A week passed in this tense atmosphere. One morning, Frederica knocked on Emilia's door and handed her a sealed letter. Emilia, with a flicker of hope in her eyes, thought it might be from Julius, a sign that he had regained his senses. But as she opened it and began to read, her heart sank. The letter wasn't from Julius; it was from Felix.

The words on the page were harsh and accusatory, lashing out at Emilia like a physical blow. Felix demanded an explanation for what they had done to Julius, expressing his fury over Julius's condition. He explained that he couldn't heal Julius's arm due to some strange magic that was used in the fight. He mentioned that Julius had stopped talking, eating, and seemed to have lost his will to live.

Felix's letter continued, detailing how he had learned from Anastasia about Julius's supposed betrayal. Anastasia had told Felix that Julius had left her for Emilia, implying that he was under Emilia's control. She had gone on to tell him that Emilia possessed the power to control minds and that Julius was affected by it. Felix stated that he believed Anastasia, especially after Crusch confirmed what she had witnessed in the battle with Capella.

Felix's words became more venomous, calling Emilia a "thankless bitch" who had manipulated and used Julius. He accused her of taking advantage of Julius's loyalty and the resources of his house, only to leave him a broken man, viewed as a traitor by the people. Felix swore that he would never help Emilia's camp again. Even if Crusch ordered him to, he vowed to disobey, feeling that Emilia's actions were beyond forgiveness.

The letter ended with a chilling warning. Felix wrote that he planned to report Emilia's abilities to the elders in the royal capital, ensuring that they knew about the dangerous power she had kept hidden. He stated his intention to see her disqualified from the Royal Selection, believing that someone with such abilities posed too great a threat to be allowed to rule.

Emilia's hands trembled as she finished reading the letter. Her vision blurred with tears, the words swimming in front of her eyes. She felt a profound sense of guilt and despair washing over her. Everything Felix had accused her of echoed the fears she harbored deep within herself. It wasn't just that she had let this happen; it was that people, those she had once considered friends and allies, now saw her as a monster. Felix's hatred was so palpable in his words that she could almost hear his voice spitting them at her.

She sank to the floor, clutching the letter to her chest as if it might somehow mend the growing hole in her heart. A sob escaped her lips, a sound filled with the pain of betrayal and the crushing weight of her own perceived failure. She had wanted to help, to make things right, but everything had only spiraled further out of control. Now, even if she wanted to reach out to Julius, to apologize and try to make amends, it was clear she was the last person he needed.

The door to her room creaked open, and Petra peered in, her young face filled with concern. "Lady Emilia, are you alright?" she asked softly, seeing the distress on Emilia's face.

Emilia wiped at her eyes, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach. "I'm... I'm fine, Petra. Thank you. I just need a moment alone."

Petra hesitated, clearly wanting to comfort her but unsure how. Finally, she nodded and quietly closed the door, leaving Emilia to her solitude. Emilia looked down at the letter in her hands once more, knowing that Felix's words had opened a wound that might never heal. She had wanted to protect everyone, but in the end, she had only brought them pain.
