I sighed, the Alpha's arms wrapped around my torso with his head buried in my chest with his wings spread out around us. It had been six hours since he had quite literally swooped in and we hadn't moved from the clearing the entire time, only changing positions once the Avians changed the entire set up.
"Can we get up now?" I said, glaring at the crimson winged alpha whose arms were pinning mine.
"No." he replied, looking up at me with lidded eyes and a goofy smile. He had learned the word after the third hour of sitting on the ground, once I had started begging anyone who walked by if they could help me.
"You are horrible, you know that. I have work, my chores are going to pile up." I grumbled, the sound turning to one of alarm when the Alpha abruptly changed our position. So he was holding me against his chest, wings flourishing out to either side with a dramatic flare before forming a tent around the two of us with our legs sticking out.
When I noticed how muscled his lean chest was I flushed. Flashing a glare to the alpha when he raised a curious eyebrow with a smile that said he knew exactly why I was blushing.
He not only was completely bare chested but small decorative bands adorned his forearms and ears, made of small metal loops and spirals. There were even small rocks and uncut gems embedded in the metal, if it wasn't stolen wire that is. And his pants were baggy and loose in design, flowy and traditional to Avian culture while still being modest for ground and air travel.
"Eaws, wove." He cooed, smiling as he gently tugged on my flushed, bright red ears. "Qute."
"So you can talk, can you understand me too? Un-der-stand?"
"No." he grinned, I glared back when he bashed his forehead against mine with a singing voice. "No no no. No nonono."
"Augh! But the nesting grounds should be lowered and I need to get groceries done." Against my better judgment and impending chores the alpha grinned and ran his fingers through my hair before swinging an arm under my knees. Flapping his wings until he was standing on his feet and my arms were wrapped around his shoulders in brief panic.
"Put m-"
"Nest?" The alpha shoved his face into mine, golden eyes wide and feathers fluffed in anxious excitement.
There were a few seconds where I blinked at him, then it dawned on me. Birds would make their nests in the spring! Of course he would want to see the nesting grounds, he thinks I've built some kinda crap nest. I rolled my eyes mentally, pointing to the research building.
"It's in there," I said, now that I thought about it I couldn't just call him BirdMan or anything of the sort because he had a name. I just didn't have any way of getting it, maybe Opal or Mina could translate for me.
The Alpha raised an eyebrow at me, blinking his honey gold eyes at me as if to say "You're trying to get me to walk into a human research area? Really Sweetheart?"
I pointed to an area of the building's slanted top with an open roof, glass panels remotely opened and closed for easy Avian entrance and exit. "It's just in there, just look at it."
The alpha shook his head resignedly, crouching down with a powerful raise of his wings and a sly smile wink. Then his wings descended and we were rocketing towards the open square in the roof.
I yelped, clinging to his shoulders and squeezing my eyes closed as air rocketed past like a cannon before we did a random loop-de-loop that made my stomach tie itself in knots before we landed with the unsteady lurch of ground underfoot and a rapping of rope smacking on rope.
The alpha held me, slowly standing as the entire view of the nesting grounds took him by surprise.
The initial room was plain, light colors in blues and greens with a spattering of tribal markings decorating the walls in deep reds and browns along the walls. But what was really eye-catching was the suspended nests big enough to fit a king size bed, on the outside hay was sticking out of the neet circles but on the inside they were a collection of comfortable pillows and blankets all made economically.
