Timeline: At the party
Sanemis Pov:
The party was in full swing, the dim lighting and loud music creating a charged atmosphere. I leaned against a wall, nursing a drink and surveying the room. It wasn't my scene, but Obanai had insisted I come along. His usual mix of enthusiasm and scheming had led to this gathering, and I was here mostly to keep him in check.
I watched as people mingled and laughed, my gaze occasionally drifting to a group near the snacks where Kanae Kocho and Mitsuri were chatting. Kanae had caught my attentionher bright smile and easy laughter were impossible to ignore. She was new, a fresh face in a crowd that often felt lifeless and predictable.
Obanai sidled up next to me, his eyes fixed on Kanae. "You see the new girl over there?" he asked, a smirk playing on his lips. "Kanae Kocho."
"Yeah, I see her," I replied, my tone disinterested.
Obanai's smirk widened as he leaned closer. "I've got a proposition for you."
I raised an eyebrow. "A proposition?"
"Yeah," he said, his voice low and conspiratorial. "I bet you can't make her fall for you by the end of the month. If you manage it, I'll get you that motorcycle you've been eyeing. The one you've been talking about."
I didn't need to think twice about what he was offering. The motorcycle had been on my mind for a while, and the temptation of finally getting it was hard to ignore.
"And if I refuse?" I asked, feigning detachment.
Obanai chuckled. "Then I'll find someone else. But you're the best candidate for this. Besides, it'll be interesting to watch."
I glanced back at Kanae, who was laughing at something Mitsuri said. There was nothing about her that stirred any real interest or affection within me. She seemed pleasant enough, but that was where it ended.
"Fine," I said, deciding to take the bet. "What are the rules?"
Obanai's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Just make sure she falls for you. No pressure, right? Keep it casual, play the part, and make sure she's into you by the end of the month. I'm sure you'll have no trouble."
As Obanai walked away, I found myself contemplating the challenge. The bet was straightforward, and the reward was tempting. I wasn't going to let my lack of personal interest in Kanae stop me from achieving my goal.
I took another glance at Kanae, who was surrounded by friends, her laughter blending into the background noise of the party. I had no intention of developing any feelings for her; this was strictly a game to me. If anything, it was a test of how well I could manipulate a situation to my advantage.
With the party winding down, I decided to observe Kanae a bit more. If I was going to play this game, I might as well do it well. I wasn't interested in her personally, but the bet and the motorcycle were enough motivation to see it through.
When the night finally came to a close, I took one last look at Kanae. She was just another player in the game, and I was determined to win. The challenge had begun, and I was ready to see it through, no matter how simple or complex it might turn out to be.
