Monday's meeting had been to tell them that Sasuke was going on a work trip, that Sarada would be in charge of presenting one of her projects to the board and that Boruto would be in charge of assisting her.

The amount of work that Sasuke left them was exaggerated. Sarada and him practically did nothing but work all day.

They had seen little of each other, busy as they were, but things had changed between them since their last night together. Even though they had already slept together, he felt a tension between them stronger than ever.

They had to talk.

They had been left with looks and silences between them loaded with questions, loaded with feelings still unresolved.

He, in uncertainty, looking for excuses to get closer to her.

Waiting for the moment when he could kiss her again.

Her a little distant.

Him wanting more.

More of her time. More of her company. More of her.

He felt a connection with her like he had never felt with anyone. Not even close. He didn't even know it was possible to feel something like that.

He hoped she felt it too.

-Sarada, what are you going to do on your birthday? Her birthday was just days away from his and unlike his big parties, hers were always private and exclusive and he wasn't even invited most of the time.

-Oh, I'm not going to celebrate this year, with all the work that papa left us. I wouldn't even have time. I'll only see Chochou and the others on Saturday for a girls' night.

His birthday was Thursday.

- And on Thursday?

-Well, nothing, we'll be working I guess. She told him busy behind a wall of papers.

- Let me invite you to dinner.

---

That Thursday she found his gift in her office, peonies and diamond and ruby earrings.

Peonies were her favorite flowers and she had received them from him on her birthday for a few years now, the earrings were something new, she would wear them at night.

She tried to finish her work tasks as soon as possible so she could go get ready for dinner.

She put on a white dress, short but not too tight, soft makeup, soft waves in her loose hair and the earrings. She wanted to look soft and femenine. Pretty.

She was barely finishing getting ready when he arrived, looking incredibly handsome all in black and wearing the rolex she had given him.

Even with heels he was much taller than her, she liked that. She also liked his back and his broad shoulders and how delicate she felt in his arms when he hugged her to congratulate her.

He took her hand and opened the car door for her.

He took her to her favorite restaurant.

- So you're having a girls' night out, huh? Well, you do have some novelties for them... he told her mischeaviously.

She blushed and changed the subject. Despite the scandal she had made, she didn't think she would ever tell them, it was too intimate for her. Although now at least she no longer worried about the subject.

He laughed relaxed and she relaxed too, she felt that the night passed in a second, talking about everything with him, except what they should be talking about.

They had to talk.

But she didn't want to ruin the moment.

Afraid of his answers not being what she hoped them to be, afraid of risking what they had now.

She let it pass.

He took her home and when they were at the door he gave her one more gift, a delicate chain with a pendant that matched the earrings.

She turned her back on him so he could put it on, his fingers barely grazing her skin, and when she turned around and found him so close she got nervous.

She couldn't keep up with the intense look in his blue eyes. Overwhelmed she lowered her gaze.

- Thank you.

He didn't go away. Would he kiss her? She hoped so, she had waited all night.

He gently raised her face. He finally kissed her.

Slowly. Tenderly. Reminding her of their first kiss.

This soft, tender kiss in contrast to the passionate ones they had shared a few days before captivated her.

After everything that had happened between them, how was it possible that a single kiss could leave her with so many emotions.

- Happy birthday Sarada, he said as goodbye and a true gentleman left to his house

What did it mean?

That he had kissed her? That he had asked her out? That he had gone home?

What were they now?

Friends? Friends with benefits?

She hadn' t dared to ask him.

She was afraid to find out.
