Lloyd:
I waited all day for my stupid classes to be over.
Middle school is supposed to be preparation for high school, and high school is supposed to prepare us for university or college or whatever you call it. University is supposed to prepare you for a job.
Screw that. I'd rather be stuck flipping burgers until I'm eighty.
When the bells finally rang, I pretty much ran out of the classroom.
I had plans to meet with my friends, and we were going to walk around Ninjago until our parents demanded we came home.
We did this every day, except I can't on Wednesday. I spend Wednesdays with Zane.
I was free to stay out as long as I wanted because let's face it, my dad is never around, and my mom cares more about artifacts than me.
Harumi had to go by 4:30 most days because her adoptive parents were strict.
She doesn't think they care about anything except appearances, but they let her hang out with us four, so I think that they just care about her.
Brad likes to skip class and act all tough, but deep down, he's a softy. And if you tell him that, he'll do something stupid, like stealing a car to prove you wrong.
And he's a terrible driver.
You either like Akita or you don't. She can be a bit much sometimes, and she'll tell you to your face what she thinks of you. She's also very loud.
Kataru tries to keep her in check, but it never works. I feel bad for him. He has to live with her.
I have nothing against Akita, but she's like one big blow to the ego.
Come to think of it, Kataru's the only one that actually cares about his future.
Walking to the base of Borg Industries takes forever from my school, but it's in the middle of the city, so we all meet up there.
Brad and I go to Darkley's, so we walk together on days he actually shows up. Today was not one of them.
Akita and Kataru go to some unknown school that they never talk about, and Harumi goes to a fancy private school no one can pronounce.
I'm now waiting at the Borg Industries entrance, but my friends still aren't here.
I check the time. What's taking so long?
Then I finally see someone in the distance.
Harumi.
I start walking to her, picking up my pace.
I see her face light up with recognition when she's sees me, and she turns her destination to me.
When we reached each other, we started walking to the building I'd spent fifteen minutes waiting at.
"So, how was school?" I turn to look at her.
She lets out a sigh. "We had a test. I think that speaks for itself."
"At least you're good at this stuff. I think my only future is in a window wiping service."
She laughs.
Her laugh is so beautiful, and her eyes are an emerald green, my favorite color.
"Where is everyone?" She wonders aloud.
She's not very patient.
I pull out my phone and message each of them.
"Brad's grounded, Akita is in the woods, and Kataru's trying to find her. Think that I should tell him?"
She shakes her head. "Nah. Let her have her fun. So, what should we do today?"
I shrug. "We could see if Kai or Nya are around. Sometimes, he'll let me borrow his bb gun and run around with it. Or Nya would take me on her motorcycle."
She grins and grabs my hand. "Where do we find them?"
Harumi:
When we got to the apartment, Lloyd knocked on the door.
I wasn't into guns, but motorcycles sounded pretty interesting to me.
Also, anything beat going home early.
No answer.
He checked his phone. "Kai's still at work around this time. Who knows what Nya's doing."
I shrug. "What should we do instead?"
"You have 30 minutes before you need to head home, but maybe we could check out the skate park?" He looks me in the eyes.
This boy knows me too well. Better than my 'parents', that's for sure.
I grin at him. "Let's go."
