437 wordsSonic saw the ground getting closer, the cold grey asphalt, and there was no way to stop himself. Fear constricted his throat and tears sparked in his eyes— then he was fine.
Jolting awake, Sonic's eyes shot open and his breathing went quick. He put his hand to his chest and got himself to calm down after realising it had only been a dream.
Where am I...? Sonic propped himself up, rubbing one of his eyes. In his half-asleep state, he only registered everything as his eyes focused on it; the backlit clock, the ticking sound, the buzzing of the fridge from the kitchen, the photo frames on the walls, and the TV. Some advertisements flashed on the screen, and Sonic was surprised by himself. He only began hearing the TV's murmur after noticing it was working.
He groaned and felt around for the remote, but found something else; or rather, someone.
Shadow? Sonic drew his breath and focused on what his hand had felt. Shadow lay between Sonic and the back of the couch, his arms around Sonic's torso.
Sonic groggily began putting together the explanation and another quick glance at the clock confirmed his suspicions: he and Shadow had fallen asleep watching TV. Last Sonic remembered it had been about eleven-thirty, but the clock now read two-thirty.
The fact that they had fallen asleep while watching TV wasn't very curious to Sonic, but the fact that they both had fallen asleep was a little strange. How did neither one of us notice the other had fallen asleep? Did we really fall asleep at the same time?
Sonic finally found the remote and turned it down— not off as he wasn't ready to be in complete darkness and eerie silence quite yet. He gently pushed Shadow's arms off of him and sat up on the couch, yawning.
It's especially strange for Shadow... He doesn't even need sleep, how could he accidentally fall asleep with me? Sonic looked over his shoulder at Shadow and couldn't help but smile. He sighed and shook his head. It doesn't matter.
Sonic stood up and gently stretched before turning around and picking up Shadow, carefully carrying him up the stairs and into their bedroom. He laid him down on his side of the bed and tucked him in with a kiss on the cheek. Then, Sonic went downstairs and cleaned up the living room, including finally turning off the TV, before coming back upstairs and getting in bed beside Shadow.
He watched him for a moment, and let his breathing match with Shadow's, in turn, lulling Sonic back to sleep, now in the proper place where they were both supposed to be.
