My heart began to beat wildly against my chest as I dropped whatever I was holding and decided to run. Again.
I wasn't surprised when Zach had managed to reach me, his hand reaching for mine as we made a sharp turn towards the jungle, trying to lose the dinosaur that was on our case. My hand grabbed his at an attempt to not get separated, my feet subconsciously slowing down causing Zach to drag me. His hazel eyes turn to me in confusion as his hand tugs mine, pulling me through the twists and turns of the area. He looked back up ahead, the grip of his hand growing tighter on mine while the roars of the T- Rex were growing more distant with every mile we ran.
"Zach!" I called out as he continued to drag me further and further into the jungle, his feet never seeming to grow tired from all the physical exercise we had done in one day. He didn't stop though, he kept running and running even when the roars have disappeared completely. "Zach!" I tried again, digging my feet into the ground to brake. I was getting annoyed. He was running further into the jungle and I had no idea whether or not Claire or Owen were still behind us. My patience was running low.
His hand slipped away from mine, completely ignoring my attempt at stopping and he continued to run causing me to fall. I shield my face with my arms, bracing myself for the skin to ground contact.
It didn't come.
I uncovered my face, finding myself trapped in a circle of arms, Zach's face filled with concern. "Nice reflexes, asshat." I growled as I steadied myself, pulling away from his hold. His lips curled into a frown as his feet take a step closer to me, his hands reaching out to hold me by my arms. "I'm so sorry, Cecily." He whispered causing me to sigh, taking a step back and shrugging his hands off my arms. "Sorry?" I scoffed, my face mocking surprise as I gestured around the jungle. "Sorry is not going to cut out for the fact that we're completely lost in a jungle!" I yelled causing him to cringe before his eyes darted around us, worry painted all over his features. "Cecily-"
"Don't Cecily me." I hissed, crossing my arms over my chest as I narrowed my eyes at him, glaring at him with every single fiber of my being. I'm angry. But why shouldn't I be? We were lost in the middle of a jungle. A fucking jungle filled with wild dinosaurs. No word was ever going to cut out for what he did whether it was out of panic.
"Cecily," He began causing me to avert my eyes elsewhere, the anger never seeming to drop. It seemed to only grow with each word that escaped his lips. I held up my hand, stopping him from whatever he had to say. Excuses weren't going to help with my mood.
"Don't say anything now. You've done this and now we have to get back. So save your excuses for another day because today, we're going to find your Aunt and her boyfriend." I snapped, turning around before marching in the direction we came from. His lips released a sigh of disappointment before I felt his hand touch my arm, turning me around and pulling me towards him. "I'm sorry." He repeated, his eyes filled with hurt causing my anger to slowly die down as my eyes softened. "Zach-"
"No. Listen to me." He cut me off, pleading with his eyes to let him continue. A huff escaped my lips as I nodded earning a small smile to form on his lips. "I'm sorry, Cecily. I panicked and I was scared. I wasn't thinking right when I ran and dragged you into this place. All I ever wanted was for you to be safe. So I placed that as my number one priority, not caring where we end up because you were safe." He said, his eyes never leaving mine. I open my mouth to speak yet he raises a hand up to my face to stop me. "I wasn't done." He remarked causing me to close my mouth earning a nod from him.
"So what I'm trying to say really is that I'm sorry. What I said wasn't an excuse and it would never be an excuse as to why I dragged you in here. By bringing you here, I just made you even more prone to danger and God, I hate myself so much for it." He continued, his voice growing softer and lower as he took careful steps towards me, his other hand reaching down to hold mine. "We're both idiots then." I whispered, the brown in his eyes growing dark with confusion. "I just want you safe too, Zach Mitchell."
A chuckle escaped his lips as he took a step closer, leaning down to press his forehead against mine. It felt... weird. But at the same time, it felt so familiar. It felt as if I've done this before and what I'm feeling inside as his beautiful hazel eyes wouldn't stray away from mine, was perfectly normal.
"Can I kiss you?"He asked softly causing me to giggle. My free hand reached up to gently touch his shoulder blade, drawing small circles on it. "Can you?" I asked, a smirk growing on my lips as he inches closer, returning the smirk. His eyes began to close, his lips parting as he tilted his head slightly to side. On that note, I pushed him away.
Shock is painted all over his handsome features causing me to bring my hand up to my lips, covering it to stifle the loud laughter that I know is about to come. His eyes opened wide with annoyance, his lips curled into a frown as he stomped his foot onto the ground, crossing his arms over his chest. "What the hell was that?" He growled, his eyes filled with fury now. Yet, I couldn't find it in myself to be scared. It was just Zach; Zach who wanted the best for me and to keep me safe. The same Zach who I almost kissed.
"If you want a kiss, Mitchell, you better start working for it." I challenged causing his frown to disappear, only to be replaced with a smirk. Mischief began to cross over his face as his hands dropped down to his side, his legs taking short strides towards me. "You better be ready for that kiss, Ms. Grey. I wouldn't want to have something so precious, so easily stolen." He chuckled making my cheeks grow a light shade of pink. I bit down my lower lip before turning away from him and walking into a random direction. A laugh escaped his lips causing me to turn around, my eyes narrowing into a suspicious glare."What's so funny?" I growled earning a shake of his head, his black hair falling over his eyes.
"The camp is in the other direction."
