I listened patiently, smiling politely as Khia chattered on, my mind wandering to the question of what fueled her non-stop chatter.

She couldn't have inherited her talkativeness from her father, since he's the quiet type, not one to chat much.

I've only knew her for a little over two days and it feels like I've known her my whole life. From her friends in puerto rico to how her parents met to how her last relationship ended badly and now she's revisiting the topic on schools she wants to go to.

As she continued speaking, I found myself nodding along to her words, but my mind began to wander, and I tuned out for a few minutes, losing focus on what she was saying.

Today's the day Duijai's supposed to perform, so I get that he's busy, but I'm surprised he hasn't sent me a single message all morning - not even a quick hello or an update.

He could be flying a plane, I don't care, text me.No such thing as being too busy.

Khia's voice rose as she shouted my name, "Keziah!" She paused, then added, "I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall. You're not responding, and it seems like I'm the only one engaged in this conversation." With that, she dropped her gaze, her fingers drumming a restless rhythm on her lap.

That's because you are baby.

I snapped back to attention, realizing I had been lost in thought. "Sorry, Khia. I'm listening," I said, trying to reassure her. But she just raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical.

"Really? Because it seems like your mind is a million miles away," she said, her voice tinged with disappointment. I sighed, knowing I had to make an effort to focus on our conversation.

Miles away indeed.

"I'm just preoccupied with some stuff. But I'm here now," I said, trying to sound convincing. Khia looked up at me, her eyes searching mine as if trying to gauge my sincerity.

"Okay, Keziah. But please, try to stay present. This conversation is important to me," she said, her voice softening. I nodded, feeling a pang of guilt for zoning out earlier.

The door opens, and Zyron enters, bearing two Starbucks cups. He hands one to Khia and the other to me, his expression teasing.

Khia takes a sip, her eyes lighting up. "How did you know my go-to drink?"

Zyron laughs, his smile cheeky. "I just told the cashier to hook me up with a popular female order. Don't hype yo' self up too much."he replies which made me chuckle a little.
