Spanish or vanish

Once upon a time a green bird had a determination.

A nobel and simple quest yet  it's success came with a price.

He had dedicated his life to said mission, making it his first priority leaving little room for morale.

If they just did their lessons he thought, then the world could be at peace.

Loosing your streak will be the last thing you'll do.

Somewhere far far away, at a place just like any other, 5 friends had a sleepover.

TV: „Still hoping for clues about the recent nightly murders happening, the police has once again new cases to report."

Ash: „I can't believe they still haven't caught them. You'd think that 12 murders would leave at least one fingerprint"

Val: „They must really know what they're doing"

Lia: „Oh please, I could pull that off if it weren't for my homework!"

Dean: „You wish!"

Lia: „I'd be a great murderer"

Dean: „You'd be the first victim"

Eli: „Stop it guys, no one is going to murder or be murdered here"

Lia: „I'd be up for both"

In an attempt to bring a bit more positivity into the room Eli tried to change the topic

Eli: „Soo uhm anyways, are you looking forward to our school trip?"

Ash: „Kinda, I just don't really know any Spanish"

Dean: „Same here but learning a new language is just such a drag"

Val: „Don't you have a Spanish class or did I miss something"

Dean rolled his eyes

Ash: „I think Dean is the one who has been missing something isn't that right"

Ash gave him a cheeky smile. She knew he had been skipping class.

Dean: „Don't come for me here. You sit there and still don't know a single thing"

Ash: „Excuse moi??"

Dean: „That's french you dumbass"

Ash: „Well, at least I know one foreign language"

Dean: „Oh really? Say one other thing in french"

Ash thought for a short moment and cleared her throat, putting on a very forced french accent

Ash: „Baguette🤌"

Seemingly proud of herself she smiled at Dean.

Dean: „You're hopeless"

Lia: „Maybe you should try out Duolingo"

Val: „What's that?"

Ash: „Isn't that this weird owl app? Keeps popping up on my insta timeline"

Dean: „Forget it, I'm not playing this pathetic game like I have nothing better to do with my time."

Ash: „Oh please you have a higher level in candycrush than my mom, don't act like you're better than us"

Dean turned his head away, knowing well she was right about that addiction of his.

Eli: „Anyways, tell us more about it"

She smiled at Lia, visibly excited about something new to try out.

Lia: „As I was saying, we could all download the app and start learning. It's free and if we don't like it we can just delete it again"

Ash: „Uhhh that sounds cool! We could make it a challenge. Whoever learns the most wins"

Eli: „I don't think I have tim-„

Dean: „It's on! I'm going to Duolingu you into the ground!"

Both looked overly serious about the matter now.

Val: „Don't forget about me here. I'm going to destroy both of you"

Lia: „Fine by me, I won't win anyways but at least I have something to keep me entertained"

After a lot of death stares from her friends, Eli had to give in.

Eli: „Ugh fine. I guess I'm in too"

So it was decided. They all pulled out their smartphones and pressed download.

Ash: „This is gonna be so fun"

She smirked. Usually there was not much motivation when it came to learning a new language but now something was on the line: winning.

Determined she thought that she would not let anyone get in her.
