When Eliza opened her eyes, she instantly remembered where she was, and more importantly, who she was laying on. She looked up, finding Nick looking back at her. "You look so peaceful when you sleep." Nick said groggily.
"Well good morning to you too." Eliza smiled, still half asleep. Nick wrapped his arms around her, tracing lines along her back, "You're going to make me fall back asleep." Eliza half complained.
"Is that a bad thing?" He asked, tilting her chin up to look at him.
"Not entirely." Eliza smiled at him; her eyes briefly flickered to his lips as Nick did the same, pulling her in for a kiss. This one was far different from the first two, it wasn't hungry or desperate, it was sweet, it was innocent. The kiss was electric for both of them, or at least it was, until a buzzing came from Nicks nightstand causing the two of them to groan.
"Thats like the eighth call you've gotten." Nick chuckled.
"Ugh, and you didn't answer?" Eliza laughed as well.
"I didn't want to, maybe it was a secret boyfriend." Nick joked.
"Me? A secret boyfriend? God no, being committed to someone, being so tied down that I have to cheat? Fuck that, you know what it's like." She joked back as she reached across Nick to grab her phone.
Nick let out a small chuckle, "You're right, and if you really wanted to be with someone else that bad, why not just end it." He spoke. He was smiling on the outside, but he felt sick to his stomach, remembering that this wouldn't be forever. It couldn't be with them. No matter what conversation he overheard the day before, he had known deep down that this would end.
"Elizabeth Bennet Alexander," the women on the other end of the phone yelled, drawing Nick out of his thoughts, a smile plastered on his face from hearing her full name. "Do you know how fucking worried I've been, when you didn't come home last night, and then today every call and text I send goes unanswered? God, I thought you were fucking dead."
"Ang, honey-"
"I'm not an axe murderer." Nick laughed into the phone, cutting Eliza off.
"Shut it," Eliza laughed back at the man, hitting his chest lightly, "Ang love, I'm okay, I'm so sorry I didn't let you know I wouldn't be home last night, we were watching a movie, and I fell asleep." Eliza said sincerely.
"Mhmm sure you were." Ang said, not believing it.
"It's true! we were watching Corpse Bride!" Nick yelled, causing Ang to gasp offendedly.
"Thats our movie and you know it." She shouted at Eliza.
"You don't get to act offended when you insinuated that Nick could kill me and look, I'm sure he's touched that you said that, but come on, we both know he doesn't stand a chance." Eliza said, causing the two women to laugh and Nick to shake his head.
"I can't even argue that, because then I will sound like an axe murdered." He chuckled.
"Okay, now that I know you're alive and well, I'm gonna go, but Eliza I swear to God and everything holy, if you do that shit again, I'll be the one killing you."
"Yes ma'am." Eliza saluted, hanging up the phone.
"Elizabeth Bennet Alexander huh?" Nick questioned, biting his cheeks to suppress a smile.
"Ugh I know, it's stupid, but my mom just loved Jane Austen." She laughed, covering her face with her hands.
"Hey," Nick began as he pulled her hands away from her face, "Don't say that. I think it's beautiful." He finished, as he gazed into her green eyes, admiring the way the morning sun peeking through his window reflected off of them, the way her pupils dilated when she looked at him, and how the little golden specks contrasted the green. "Just like you." He spoke once more. He watched as the blush rose to her cheeks.
