People do not die from missiles or bullets; they die from losing hope
It's preposterous how one moment you're planning your future, and the next you're holding a dead body. Rose never imagined her life would unravel so quickly. The war changed everything, leaving her surrounded by ruins and ghosts from the past.
Rose walks down the street that was once filled with the laughter of children playing. The playgrounds where they used to play are now deserted, haunted by the memories of a distant life, full of color. Now it's a mix of grey, black, and red. There are shattered glasses and dishes all over the street. The cheerful chatter that once echoed throughout the neighborhood has been now replaced by an eerie silence. The air is thick with smoke and decay, providing a stark contrast to the scent of fresh bread that once wafted from the bakery around the corner. Her steps reverberate in emptiness, each one a painful reminder of the many lives lost.
Rose scavenges through the rumbled bakery hoping for the smallest morsel. She often went days without eating. Prior to the war, food was always on the table. The pangs of hunger are a cruel reality, a far cry from the days when she could afford to dream and live freely. Now, she tries her hardest to survive, and every grain of food is a treasure. Her eyes fill with tears as she recalls the comforts, she took for granted. After a long search, she couldn't find anything. Her stomach growled with hunger. She was about to leave, defeated, when she noticed a glimmer beneath a pile of debris, she knelt and carefully moved aside the broken bricks. To her surprise she uncovered a small, dusty loaf of bread that had been miraculously preserved. She brushed off the dirt with trembling hands and cradled the loaf against her chest. Before she knew it, tears streamed down her face. This small victory provided her with enough strength for another day. Rose took a deep breath, stood up, and looked out onto the desolate street. She knew that survival was a never-ending battle, but for the time being she had gained a valuable reprieve. Clutching the bread tightly, she made her way back to her makeshift shelter.
But as she turns a corner, she stops. Afar, amidst the rubble and debris, she catches a glimpse of a figure she thought she would never see again. She can hear a pounding in her chest, a mixture of fear and hope. She takes a cautious step forward, unsure about what lies ahead.
