The cool breeze flowed across the cold mountain, brushing the trees ever so slightly, it's soothing sound proving warmth to the silent night. Crickets chirped, and the calm night sky remained beautiful as the stars glimmered in delight, the moonlight shining over whatever its beam could reach.
Continuing further on, below the night sky and onto the surface was a path, trees surrounding it along orange and yellow leaves dancing around with the breeze in such a manner that it could be considered a fairytale-like scene. The path stretched out into an open area, where there stood a wooden cabin, which seemed to be abandoned... but it was actually a home for two particular orphans. Twins, in fact.
"Hmm..." One of the twins hummed, as he tossed and turned in his bed. The summer heat had caught onto both twins quickly, which caused them to feel exhausted and drained, but didn't allow them to sleep either. Sweat drenched both his forehead and pillow, to which he let out a frustrated sigh. He rose up from his bed, wiping off the sweat from his forehead, slightly ruffling his bangs in the process.
"Yui? Are you asleep?" One of them asked the other. However, he did not receive an answer, but instead a silent groan. The other twin, known as 'Yui', slowly opened his eyes, shifting his gaze toward his brother. The twin who called out to his brother gave him a soft smile, before lifting himself up from his sitting position, and walking over to the kitchen in front of him. The laying twin closed his eyes once again, though not with the intention of falling asleep. The standing twin noticed a canteen placed right next to the sink, and so he checked if it still had water in it. Indeed, it did, but a small portion that could barely satisfy someone's thirst.
"Oh no... Yuichiro, we're running out of water." The twin informed his brother, now confirmed that his name is Yuichiro. Yuichiro's eyes fluttered open, annoyed by his twin's voice. "It's fine, Muichiro. We'll head over to the river tomorrow morning to refill the bucket." He simply stated, to which the other twin, now known as Muichiro, reluctantly nodded. Muichiro placed the canteen back in its place, before walking back over to his bed, and tucking himself in the white bed sheets.
"Hey, Yuichiro?" Called out Muichiro, to which a slight groan could be heard from Yuichiro. He slowly lifted himself to a sitting position, his head turning to look at his laying brother. "What?" He said in a rather annoyed tone. Muichiro's expression turned to one of slight disgust for a split second, before going back to a thoughtful one. "Why don't you wanna become a swordsmen...? We could help so many people!" Muichiro tried convincing his brother once again, but instead of earning a thoughtful reaction, he received yet another deep glare from his twin brother. "Just imagine the things we could do! Our ancestors were powerful swordsmen, so why can't we? We could even have an advantage! Maybe our destiny is to protect those who are vulnerable, a-and earn the praise from so many people! We can be heroes! We-" Muichiro's speech was cut off by Yuichiro's fist bang against the wooden floor tiles. Muichiro's determined face turned to one of confusion and worry. "DO YOU NOT GET IT MUICHIRO? I ALREADY TOLD YOU! ALL WE HAVE LEFT IS TO SURVIVE IN THE MEANTIME UNTIL WE DIE LIKE STREET DOGS! TWO HELPLESS ORPHANS COULD NEVER BECOME SWORDSMEN! SO WHAT IF OUR ANCESTORS WERE POWERFUL SWORD WIELDERS? THAT WAS CENTURIES AGO! WHAT COULD A PAIR OF USELESS TWINS LIKE US DO AGAINST THE SLIGHTEST THREAT!? WE CAN'T EVEN DEFEAT A BOAR FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! AND YOU- WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU COULD EVER PROTECT ANYBODY? YOU CAN'T EVEN COOK RICE ON YOUR OWN, AND YOU WANT TO WIELD A SWORD? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND!? SNAP BACK INTO REALITY SHITHEAD! WE'RE NOTHING BUT BURDENS IN THIS WORLD- BORN TO DIE A LONELY DEATH! THAT'S HOW IT IS, AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT! THE 'MU' IN MUICHIRO STANDS FOR MEANINGLESS!"
