I had been traveling for a many hours before I finally reached the meeting place for the final selection. The whole moonlit mountain had been surrounded by wisteria blossom trees, because demons don't seem to like them very much, so when they are surrounded by them, they can't escape. This is the challenge. Survive a week or die trying.

I gulped. This would be hard. Entering the clearing, I noticed immediately that there were about fifty trainees trying to become official demon slayers. I wielded a Katana (a type of Japanese blade) made of Nichirin, an iron that is mined upon the highest mountain in Japan. The iron soaks in the sunlight, and since the mountain is so high up, it soaks in sunlight every minute of every day. Therefore, it is deadly to demons. I can't help but grin at the thought of finally starting to kill some things.

These are the specialties the blades have, and so I suppose that demons are only weak to sunlight, because that's what lets us kill them, the sunlight-soaked katana, also known as the color-changing katana. It's called this because once a demon slayer wields a katana, depending on the person, it changes color.

For Giyu, I noticed that it was blue-edged, the same color as his eyes. I saw his blade once, because we couldn't find a wisteria house to sleep in, so a demon attacked us while we were traveling through the night. I was asleep, of course, but Giyu had to set me down to fight the demon, so I woke up, and I could tell he felt a bit guilty after that (even though it was unavoidable and we would have died if he didn't slay the demon).

I didn't realize it at the time, but that demon encounter would be my only experience of having any idea of what actual demon attacks are like. In the final selection, I would have some idea of how to survive. That was something most other demon slayer trainees don't have.

Something else I realized after joining Gramps for training was how strong Giyu actually was. He must have trained impossibly long and hard to have become that strong. And Gramps told me he slayed over 50 demons in order to become a Hashira. The difference between my power level and Giyu's was vast. I planned to close that gap as fast as possible.

I soon joined the other trainees in a clearing surrounded by wisteria flower blossoms after registering for the test. I saw two girls who looked to be about ten, one with white hair, one with black hair. They both had flowery kimonos, and they were probably twins. Their eyes creeped me out, so I tried to stay as far away from them as much as I could.

I observed the other demon slayer trainees, and the one that stood out the most to me was a girl who looked to be about my age, but she had the strangest hair I've ever seen. Her hair was bright pink, and halfway down her three thick braids, her bright pink hair turned lime green. Her eyes were the same green as her hair, and she had two beauty marks under her eyes. Altogether, she looked adorable, and far too soft to be a demon slayer.

I approached her out of curiosity. I hadn't seen very many people in training, and I was socially-deprived, so I wanted to talk to some people. She appeared to be quite flustered, and she was eyeing the male trainees with a shy attitude.
