The next morning, they got done with breakfast when Gule decided to inform him about her plan to visit her mother.

"I'm going to meet my mother today." She told him while picking the dishes from the table.

"Can I go with you?" He followed behind her to the kitchen, carrying the glasses to the sink. He wasn't asking, he was requesting.

"I'll be fine." She smiled reassuringly. He couldn't insist after seeing her trying to act strong.

"Text me when you arrive, or just call me if you need me to come pick you up, okay?" He made her look at him to make sure she understood.

"Okay." She agreed with a nod.

"I'll always be here for you, you know that right?" He hugged her, caressing the back of her head with one hand.

Gule rested her head over his chest, listening to his heartbeat which always provided her with comfort and calmness, warmth spreading through her. Planting a kiss on top of her head, he let go.

He hadn't told her about his suspension, not wanting to disturb her. He was digging up on a drug dealing case, so he decided to unofficially visit the site and left at his usual working hour.

To delay meeting her mother, Gule took her time to get ready and went by the afternoon in her car. She drove slowly and mentally prepared herself for the worst of reactions. She'd tell her the rumour wasn't her fault.

Texting Shaheer that she'd left and arrived safely, she got off the car and rung the bell. A maid opened the door and took her inside. She couldn't even sit down on the sofa as she heard footsteps approaching.

"What have you done?! What have you been going around doing?!" She shouted at her as soon as she entered the lounge. Gule clenched her fists, the helplessness she felt upon seeing her mother resurfaced like every time.

"My daughter in a club scandal? The daughter who always acts all pious and mighty gets caught in a club scandal, all drunk, with a man embracing her cl-"

"Stop it. I did not....I'm not....I-" She could not form a proper sentence. Feeling weak, dejected, helpless.

"What do you think your dead father would say if he saw this?" Her mother knew her weak spot really well and she decided to hit her there right away.

"Don't mention baba jaan!" She screamed back, shaking.

"Why not? Is this how he raised you?" She taunted with disdain.

"DON'T! Not another word against him or I'll forget you're the woman who gave birth to me and every other reason he's taught me to respect you for!" She pointed a finger at her, anger overbearing all the other emotions she felt.
