My leg jerks up and down as I glance at the time and then back at my screen. I wanted to leave as soon as possible. The sooner I left, the quicker I'd get home to receive my new powers. For the past few days, Orion and Jojo had been searching for the right abilities to give me. They didn't want to tell me where they were getting them from, but I was determined to ask later.
I knew they were villains and doing things according to the rules wasn't in their motto, but I really hoped no one good got hurt. It then made me think back to the people Orion was making me search into I hoped he wasn't planning anything cruel. I was starting to see a more caring side of him, I didn't want that image to change.
I was then remembered of our almost kiss. My face heated up. I don't even remember what we were doing that lead up to that point. Shaking my head, I sighed. I shouldn't be thinking about that now. There was still so much to learn about him. At least now he was being more open.
As the clock finally struck 3, I shot up from my chair and quickly made my way out of the building, avoiding any side conversations or distractions. Reaching the exit, I spotted Jojo waving at me, opening a shimmering portal. Without a second glance back, I stepped through and found myself in the familiar, dimly lit cave. The air was cool and heavy with the scent of earth and stone.
I scanned the room briefly before heading to the small research lab we had set up in the back. Inside, I found Orion leaning against the table, a glowing stone in his hand, pulsing with energy—his energy. I could see dark shadowy flows go into it, the stone sucking it right up. His intense focus on the stone made me pause for a moment. I wondered what he was doing.
"So," Jojo said, strolling in with two more stones cradled in his hands, "These two are already charged with small portions of energy. They may not seem like much now, but with your amplification ability, they'll become significantly stronger." He placed them on the table as I pulled up a chair.
"Where did you get these energies from?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. Jojo glanced nervously at Orion. After a moment, Orion finished whatever he was doing and set the last stone on the table with the rest.
"We got them from volunteers," Orion said, his tone steady but not entirely convincing. I narrowed my eyes at him, sensing there was more to the story. He raised his hands in mock defense. "No one was killed, princess."
The unexpected nickname caught me off guard, but I pushed it aside, focusing on the stones. A strange mix of excitement and wariness churned in my stomach.
"Right," Jojo began, eager to move on, "We selected abilities that complement your natural energy type. Think of it like matching blood types." He picked up one of the stones, which glowed a light blue before settling back to its original yellow. "This one contains a power known as Spectral Abilities. It's classified under Etherealism, also known as ghost powers."
He handed the stone to me, and I felt a slight hum of energy as it touched my palm. It was familiar, not foreign, as if it resonated with something deep inside me.
"So I'll have ghost powers?" I asked, not hating the idea.
"Not quite a full suite of ghost powers," Jojo explained, clearly proud of his knowledge. "You'll have a specific ability—Spectral Form. It allows you to become intangible and invisible, like a ghost. You can walk through walls and avoid physical damage."
