Nightkit sighed as he lay on the flat rocks near the back of camp. Briarstar had yet again gone back on his word. Today he was at a peace treaty with RiverClan at their camp. Be a good lad, good lad, good lad, Nightkit thought, something he did to keep himself optimistic, to convince him it was only temporary.

Those two words weren't working anymore, instead of comfort, they created an aura of misery. So now he was under the boiling sun overhead, his ears drooping and head on his paws in front of him, not even enjoying the heat on his fur. He's never gonna play with me.

"You okie?" Daisykit's voice asked from behind him.

Nightkit didn't look at her, just nodded slowly. "Briarstar doesn't wanna play with me. I know he's busy with RiverClan, but even if he wasn't, he wouldn't want to. . . ," he mewed.

Daisykit sighed as she lay down beside him, side pressed to his, white against black, furrowing her brow. "This is sewious," she mewed. "You need to do somefing to get him to like you."

Nightkit turned his head to face her. "Oh, but he does like me, he just is too busy being leader to play," he said.

Daisykit sniffed in frustration. "Well, maybe Daddy will play with you sometime? He always plays wif me."

"But I'm not his kit," Nightkit pointed out.

"Well, that doesn't matter, he loves kits!" she purred.

"I guess. . . ," Nightkit sniffed. Daisykit was silent for a moment and Nightkit kept it. Then she got to her paws.

"Like I said, you need to do somefing to get his attention." She sat down in front of him instead. "Got any ideas?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.

Nightkit pouted, thinking it over slightly before ideas popped into his head. "I could. . .catch a mouse?" he asked.

Daisykit's ears perked. "Yes, that's it!"

"Petalfern and Leopardfrost did say I'm perfectly built for hunting! I bet I could catch something as puny as a mouse right now!" Nightkit exclaimed, jumping to his paws, excitement fizzing through him. "Come on!" he purred before jumping gracefully off the rocks.

Daisykit followed just as skillfully and followed as Nightkit marched towards the wall of the camp. "Wait, but there aren't any mice in here," Daisykit said. "How are we gonna hunt them?"

Nightkit looked back at her. "We're sneaking out," he whispered.

Daisykit's brilliant blue eyes widened in surprise and she stopped in her tracks. "Wait, what?" she squeaked, making Nightkit stop as well and turn to her. "But, we aren't supposed to leave camp until we're apprentices," she mewed.

Nightkit frowned. "But Daisykit, this is happiness we're talking about, for me and Briarstar. Wouldn't you be sad if Birchwhisker stopped playing with you and was away all the time?" he asked pleadingly.

Daisykit lowered her gaze to her tiny paws. "Ok. . . ," she mewed before looking back up at Nightkit. "But how are we gonna get out? Mintstorm and Amberspark are guarding the thorn tunnel."

"We go through the dirt-place. The bushes aren't cat weaved, it's easy to find gaps in the walls," Nightkit mewed.

Daisykit nodded in understanding and Nightkit continued forward towards the tunnel in-between the nursery and the elders den that led up through the quarry walls. It was dark inside but the path had been taken many times by both of them, so it didn't faze them.
