“Nightpaw! Mallowfang! Daisypaw! Petalfern!”

Nightpaw surged with overwhelming pride as the voices of his clan-mates rang out around him, cheering him on, like they believed in him. I believe in me! I'm going to be the best warrior ever! And Daisykit-er Daisypaw is gonna be second, and we're going to do everything together! he thought, practically shaking in excitement beside his new mentor.

And Mallowfang, oh she was everything he dreamed of in a mentor. She's awesome! I mean she's the deputy for StarClan's sake! She's so strong, and nice, and brave, just like me! And just like Briarstar.

He glanced up adoringly at his mentor before lifting his chin to look up at his father, who was looking back at him, his green eyes shining and mouth curled into an overjoyed smile. Now that I'm an apprentice, I can go out into the forest and learn to hunt and fight, I'll make Briarstar so proud! He's going to love me and praise me every day for how good I'll be. I'll impress him so much that he'll hang out with me again!

I'll make you proud! he thought with a grin, before he was distracted by movement from beside him. Daisypaw was looking around at the crowd of cats and he smiled, all his attention focusing on her once more. My best friend, we're going to be great together. Best warriors in ThunderClan!

“Can you believe it?! We're finally apprentices. Took like forever!” he purred.

Daisypaw beamed at him. “I know right? I can't wait to be out in the forest again,” she purred.

Nightpaw nodded, before breathing in Lizardstorm's mossy scent and getting to his paws to greet her.

“Good job, Nighty-Night,” the dark gray queen purred to him, smoothing back the fur on his head with her tongue. “I bet you're excited. I remember my first day as an apprentice like it was yesterday, I caught a whole squirrel on my first try.” Nightpaw giggled, Lizardstorm had told him many stories about herself and Briarstar when they were younger, this particular one was her favorite to tell. I won't have time to listen to her stories much anymore, he thought.

“What about you? Are you excited to be a warrior again?” he asked.

Lizardstorm's eyes flashed with something for a moment. “Oh, I won't be going back to my clan duties just yet,” she purred, her tail snaking its way towards her belly.

Nightpaw widened his eyes, he had thought he smelt something different about her. “What are you saying?” he asked giddily, already knowing the answer.

“Yes Nighty, you're finally going to be a brother,” Lizardstorm purred, with an amused roll of her eyes. “I'm sorry it couldn't have happened sooner, I really did want you to have littermates or at least siblings to play with in the nursery,” she mewed.
