Alora’s heart pounded in her chest as she prepared for the evening ahead. The pressure of the mission, combined with the undeniable pull she felt toward Dante, was becoming overwhelming. Every time she thought about the man she was supposed to betray, her resolve wavered.
But Mina’s threats echoed in her mind—there was no room for mistakes.Dante had insisted on taking her somewhere special tonight, away from the prying eyes of the usual crowd.
They drove out of the city, the lights gradually fading as they approached a secluded part of his family’s private estate. It was a quiet, moonlit area with a view that stretched for miles, a place that felt both peaceful and isolating.
As they stepped out of the car, Dante took her hand, guiding her down a path lined with lanterns. His touch was firm, yet there was a gentleness that made Alora’s stomach flutter. She tried to focus on the mission, on the fact that she was here to deceive him, but his presence was intoxicating.
“Why do you seem so distant tonight?” Dante asked, his voice low and laced with concern. They had reached a small gazebo overlooking a serene lake, the water reflecting the stars above.
Alora hesitated, pulling her hand away from his. “I’ve just… had a lot on my mind lately,” she replied, trying to keep her voice steady.
Dante stepped closer, his gaze intense. “Talk to me. Whatever it is, I want to help.”The sincerity in his words made her chest tighten. She couldn’t let her emotions get in the way, couldn’t afford to lose focus.
“It’s nothing, really. Just some personal stuff,” she said, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.Dante’s expression softened, but then a darker, possessive edge crept into his voice.
“I don’t believe you. You’ve been on edge ever since that banquet, and I can’t help but feel like there’s something you’re not telling me.”
Alora’s breath caught in her throat. She could feel his eyes searching hers, trying to pierce through the walls she’d built around herself. The truth was, she was terrified—of the mission, of the lies, but most of all, of how deeply she was beginning to care for him.
“I’m fine, really,” she insisted, but her voice wavered. The closeness between them was intoxicating, and for a moment, she allowed herself to lean into it. She could feel the warmth of his breath against her skin, their lips dangerously close.
Just as she was about to lose herself in the moment, Alora pulled back, breaking the spell. “I should probably get going,” she said, turning away quickly.
But before she could take a step, Dante grabbed her wrist, pulling her back toward him with a force that was both surprising and undeniable.
“No,” he said firmly, his voice laced with a hint of desperation. “You're not leaving .”His grip on her wrist was firm, and his eyes were dark with something deeper—something that made Alora’s heart race.
“Dante, please, I really need to—”
“I don’t care,” he interrupted, his voice dropping to a rough whisper. “You’re always running away from me, always hiding something. I won’t let you go this time.”
Alora’s pulse quickened as he pulled her even closer, their bodies nearly touching. The intensity of his gaze made it clear that he wasn’t asking—he was demanding. “Dante, I—”
“Stay,” he insisted, his tone softer now but no less determined. “Stay with me, Alora. Whatever’s bothering you, whatever you’re afraid of, we can face it together. But don’t walk away from me.”She hesitated, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. The mission, Mina’s threats, her growing feelings for Dante—it was all too much.
But the way he looked at her, the way he held her as if she was the most precious thing in his world, made her want to stay. Made her want to believe that, just for a moment, she could forget about everything else.
“I… I can’t,” she finally whispered, her voice trembling. But even as she said the words, she didn’t pull away.Dante’s hand moved from her wrist to the side of her face, his thumb brushing gently over her cheek.
“Yes, you can,” he murmured, leaning in closer. “ Stay with me.”Their lips were so close, and for a heartbeat, it felt like the world had stopped. Alora’s mind screamed at her to pull away, to run, but her body betrayed her, leaning into his touch.
Suddenly, a rustling sound broke through the tension, pulling her back to reality. She turned her head slightly, her ears picking up the faint murmur of voices nearby. Instinctively, she moved closer to the edge of the gazebo, straining to hear.
“...can’t believe they let her get this close. Mina’s playing a dangerous game,” a voice said.
Alora’s heart skipped a beat. She recognized the name immediately, and fear gripped her. Whoever was speaking was clearly aware of Mina’s plan, and it sounded like there was more to this than she had been told.
“She’s just a pawn. Once the job’s done, she’ll be out of the picture. It’s Dante we need to worry about,” another voice responded.
Alora felt a cold shiver run down her spine. There was no time to think—she needed to get out of there before they realized she had overheard them. But the danger wasn’t just for her anymore; Dante was involved too, and the stakes were higher than ever.
She turned back to Dante, who was watching her with a mixture of concern and suspicion. “I really need to go,” she said, her voice trembling slightly.
Dante’s expression hardened, and he reached for her again, pulling her back into his arms. “You’re not going anywhere,” he said, his voice a low growl. “Not until you tell me what’s going on.”Alora’s heart raced as she looked up at him, his eyes burning with a possessive fire. She knew she was treading on dangerous ground, but she couldn’t let him get hurt because of her.
“I… I just need to clear my head, Dante. Please.”He studied her for a long moment, and for a second, she thought he might let her go. But then he shook his head, his grip tightening.
“No. Whatever it is, we’ll deal with it together. I’m not letting you walk out of my life, Alora.”She swallowed hard, her mind racing as she tried to figure out a way out of this. But before she could say anything else, her phone buzzed. It was Mina, no doubt wondering how the evening had gone.
Dante’s gaze flicked to the phone, and she could see the suspicion growing in his eyes. “Who’s that?” he asked, his voice tinged with jealousy.
Alora quickly silenced the phone, slipping it back into her pocket. “No one important,” she said, trying to sound casual. But she could tell he wasn’t convinced.
“I don’t like secrets, Alora,” Dante said, his voice low and dangerous. “And I’m starting to think you have too many of them.”
She opened her mouth to protest, but no words came out. She was in too deep, and the lines between her mission and her emotions were becoming dangerously blurred. But one thing was clear—she was playing with fire, and it was only a matter of time before she got burned.
