It's near silent, with the exception of muffled talking. Sounded like Ink and Dream arguing. It was warm, but not uncomfortably so. You slowly open your eyes, only to squint at the brightness coming from the window. The Omega timeline never seemed to have a proper day and night cycle. As your eyes adjust to the light, you try to stretch, immediately wincing at the chest and shoulder pain.

Looking down, you see your arm was in a sling. Stupid Octopus.

A knock echoes from the door and Dream peeks in. Seeing you're awake, he smiles gently, approaching the bedside.

“Ah, you're awake. How're you feeling?”

You shrug.

“Like shit, but better than before.”

A fairly big understatement for all the separate dilemmas going on at once. What took Ink so damn long? Were you that forgettable? Why did Nightmare have to break your bones? Dickhead move right there. What… What was Nightmare going on about?

“Yeah. You really got the beat down. I'm so sorry we couldn't come sooner. “ He frowns. “Ink didn't seem to realize that three days isn't a normal amount of time for you to be gone for.”

You chuckle bitterly. Either Ink didn't realize, or just forgot about you for those days. He was always so ‘busy’. “I'm not surprised.”

You pause, going back to your original train of thought before you could get sidetracked. What did Nightmare mean? He called dream a liar, but when has that goopy monster ever told the truth? ‘Black and white thinking’, he had said.

“Something on your mind?”

You blink, realizing you had gone quiet. “What? Oh, right, sorry. Just… a lot has happened these past few days.”

He nods in understanding, his simple presence bringing you comfort. “That's understandable. My brother did cause you quite some harm.”

“It.. it's not that.”

He looks surprised, raising an eyebrow (bonebrow?). “No? Did something else happen?”

You take a deep breath. “Well, he… told me some things I don't quite understa-”

“Oh, don't worry about that. He's done this before. It's just an attempt to lower people's morale. I'd recommend you ignore it. I don't want you to get all worked up over nothing.”

Immediately shot down. You bite the inside of your cheek, taking a minute to think of a reply. It didn't feel like nothing. “Oh. Right.”

An uncomfortable silence settles over the room. One that even made Mr Optimist look a bit awkward.

What did Nightmare mean?

Why did Dream shoot me down so quickly?

What does it mea-

“Well, I need to make sure the pie isn't burning. Get some rest, friend.”

With a pat on the shoulder, the injured one, he walks out, cape swooshing behind him.

Alone again.

“I've told you, Blue. I'm fine.”

The bandana-wearing skeleton looks at you with worried eyelights. “Are you sure, friend? Your shoulder-”

“-Can survive a walk around the AU.”

You'd been stuck healing for almost two weeks now. Although monster food sped up the healing process exponentially, it was still an absolute drag. No way Blue could keep you inside any longer. “It barely even hurts anymore, I promise. I can't stay cooped up any longer, for my own sanity.”
