"Are you guys ready for the plan?" I burst into the high school lobby, practically vibrating with excitement. "Cause I'm pumped up!"

"I'm kind of terrified," Daphne mumbled, clutching her books like they were a lifeline.

"Why?" Sophia arched her eyebrow.

"I mean... what am I supposed to say to him?" Daphne's eyes widened as she gulped.

"How about 'Hi'?" Sophia teased.

"And then what?" Daphne groaned. "I'll just stand there like a human statue while he gets bored out of his mind."

"Hey, relax." I threw an arm around her shoulders as we walked toward our lockers. "We'll do a role play."

"A what?" Both of my friends asked in unison.

"A role play! It'll help you practice." I smirked and stood in front of her. "Imagine I'm Elijah."

"It will be hard considering the height difference." Sophia snickered.

"I'm not that short." I pouted.

Okay, maybe I am. Daphne towers over us at 5'10", Sophia is 5'8", and I'm barely scraping 5'4".

"Now that I think about it." Sophia tapped her chin as she leaned on the locker. "Elijah seems shorter than you." She said, referring to Daphne, who was busy rummaging through her locker.

"He's what, like 5'8 or 5'9?" Daphne replied. "Not a huge difference."

"You'll just have to forgo heels, which is a tragedy," Sophia said, making us giggle.

"Alright, let's get back to the role play." I stood on my tiptoes, trying to add a few inches. "Is this enough?"

"It'll do." Daphne smiled.

"Okay, here we go." I cleared my throat, adopting a husky boy voice. "Hey, Daphne! What's up?"

Sophia tried to stifle her laughter behind Daphne, while Daphne blinked at me, completely lost.

"Uh... Sky?"

Sophia and I facepalmed simultaneously. "Let's try that again."

I leaned against the locker and gave Daphne a cheeky side-smirk. "Hey, sexy mama."

Sophia exploded into laughter while Daphne turned the brightest shade of red imaginable. I bit my lip, struggling to keep my laughter in check.

"What the f**k?" Sophia gasped between fits of laughter, wiping tears from her eyes. "That's definitely not something Elijah would say."

"You should be prepared for anything!" I giggled.

"Let's just go," Daphne muttered, ducking her flushed face as she started walking.

"Hey, wait up!" We ran to catch up with her.

"I don't think I can do this," Daphne mumbled. I stood in front of her and tried to walk backward while talking.

"Relax girl." Sophia wrapped her arm around her shoulders. "We're just messing around."

"Still... It's embarrassing." She sighed.

"Don't sweat it, Daph," I smirked, turning to walk straight. "I'll do everything for you. Just look pretty and smile-OPH!"

Abruptly, I collided with the wall and stumbled backward. Wincing, I rubbed my nose and glanced up to see it wasn't a wall but a chest. And not just any chest. It was a chest that belonged to the last guy I'd ever imagined.

"Not only are you deaf, but blind too." My eyes darted from his chest to his deadpan face. "How amusing." He said dryly, and nothing was amusing about the way he was glaring down at me with his dull eyes.
