CHAPTER 03

"Look, my daughter has arrived," my Papa's voice snapped me out of my reverie, and even the man sitting with his back towards me turned around upon hearing Papa's voice.

And it couldn't be! Oh, how I wish the earth would swallow me up at that moment.

My eyes widened in shock, and my mouth nearly dropped to the ground. Just then, my Mummy let out an awkward laugh and covered my mouth.

"You crazy girl! I know he's handsome, but close your mouth," Mummy whispered, almost yelling in my ears.

Now, how do I tell Mummy that I'm not shocked by his handsomeness but rather by the fact that the man sitting in front of me is not just anybody, but the nemesis of my dreams, the bane of my existence.

My Economics professor? Not some hairy-eared Hindi teacher from school.

CHAPTER 04

As if feeling my gaze on her she turned to me and our eyes locked for a millisecond when she just averted her gaze. And I could see the tint of pink on her cheeks. Get a grip Ahaan! I know you are happy but at least don't scare her away by acting like a pervert!

Both families exchange pleasantries. It felt oddly comforting amidst the uncertainty. As we prepared to leave, I felt a surge of nervousness once more.

Summoning my courage, I turned to Akansha, "Um, would it be okay if I... uh, could I have your number? Just so we can, you know, stay in touch." I stumbled over my words, feeling a flush of embarrassment creeping into my cheeks. I awkwardly reached for my phone, unlocked it and extended it towards her.

A blush tinted her cheeks as she took my phone and her fingers brushed against mine making me internally shiver.

She typed her number into my phone. "Sure," she replied softly, her gaze momentarily meeting mine before she looked away, a shy smile playing on her lips.

"Thank you," I said, a smile spreading across my face.

"Take care," I added softly, feeling a rush of warmth towards her.

She returned the sentiment with a shy smile, her gaze lingering on the ground.

CHAPTER 05 (Paid)

"But college ke baad, I mean, kaise jayenge? Waha sab log honge na," I added, biting my nails as I hit the send button, anxiety creeping back in.

I stared at the screen, my anxiety growing with each passing second. What if someone saw us? What if rumours started flying? My mind raced through all the worst-case scenarios until his reply finally came through.

"Haa toh mai unke beech mein aane thodi bol raha hu," he texted back, adding a touch of humour that made me smile despite my nerves.
"Kal mera time, I guess, four tak ho jayega, and uss time most of the college khali rehti hai. Toh tum thoda aage jaake wait karna; I'll bring my car."

a thousand thoughts ran through my mind. What if someone recognized his car? What if one of our classmates happened to see us together? I imagined the looks, the whispers, the possible fallout. The idea of sneaking around made my heart race.

I couldn't help but think about how surreal this all felt. Just a week ago, I was struggling to even say 'hi' to him without overthinking, and now we were planning to meet outside of college. It felt like a leap, a big one, but it also felt right.
