"May I come in, Mrs.Dhai?"
I knocked on the door.
"Yes. Come in "
I opened the door and entered the dean's chamber. It's a large room with wooden furnishings and Sandy lights. I'd never been to this room, except during admission."Good Morning Mrs.Dhai"-I greeted her.
"Good Morning. Fenn christien, right?"-She asked.
"Yes, ma'am, I came here for a personal reason. May I?"- I asked her.
Aze had been gone for two days. and it was unlike him to ignore his social media accounts. We were all concerned and expected him to return by Monday morning. But, he didn't.
"Yes, Miss. Fenn" She said.
Mrs.Dhai is looking at me. I hesitated, wondering if she knew where Aze was.
But, What if she doesn't have any idea where he went? what if she gets tensed knowing he is gone. she was all tears that night. I don't want to burden her more than what she already has.
"Mrs.Fenn," she said, calling me again.
I have to find another topic to discuss.
"Yes, I just want to ask whether I can postpone the fee remission to next month"
-wtf! Did I ask that? She is surely gonna talk with Dad, you idiot
"Oh, Yes. You can inform that in the finance department."Ok ma'am, Thank you."
I turned around to leave.
"One second.Miss.Fenn," she said, and I worried she would talk about Dad.
"Is everything fine with Aze, How is he?"
I realized her face going dark asking about him. Her eyes were begging for a positive answer."He is good, Mrs.Dhai "-I told her.
She smiled at me and permitted me to leave.
I walked back to the dorm, knowing I had made an unprofessional move. I wasn't sure what was worse - lying to a professor about her student or lying to a mother about her son.?
I entered the dorm as a deadpan and jumped on the bed to relax.
"Where were you Fenn?"-It was Maggy.
She was coming back from the shower, getting ready for the Lecture.I got up and sat on the bed. I looked at her feebly.
"Don't tell you went to ask Dean,"-She was on the verge of anger. She had a point when told me not to do it.
"Fenn, Tell me something "
"I went, but I didn't ask. I couldn't, actually "
I was guilty myself.
She stared at me;" He's not a kid, He will come back. Don't be over-concerned"
I couldn't reply to that. I got up, went out to have breakfast, and then walked to the lecture hall.**************
In the city of Aethria
(Writer's POV)Aze slowly opened his eyes.
The sunlight coming through the window shut his eyes down. He managed to sit on the floor though the weakness washed over him.The feather was lying beside him.
He tried to remember what happened. The memory was grim, but he was certain something had happened. He slowly stood up, the feather in his hand.
He walked to the table. He kept the feather back in the book and closed it.
The cover of the book was a bit torn.
He noticed it was a diary of the Year 1994, his birth year.
"If I was here in 1994, something about me would be here in these pages, "Aze thought. He took the diary with him and walked back to the front yard.
He stood there for some more time, where he bid his mother a final farewell.
He took a deep breath and walked back to the bus station. The bus was there getting ready for the next journey.
The driver was busy cleaning the bus.
He looked at Aze, surprised.
"You were so eager to go back, and you're still here," he told him, smirking.
"When is the next bus,?"-Aze asked, smiling at him.
" In about 10 minutes "the driver replied.
Aze looked around. The land seems so beautiful in the sunlight. There was a small coffee shop nearby. He hadn't noticed it in the darkness of night.
A coffee before the long run wouldn't be a bad idea. His growling stomach agrees with that.
He entered the coffee shop and ordered coffee and bread."You seem to be from outside, I haven't seen you before, "the old man said, bringing the coffee.
"Yes, I am from the States" Aze replied.
"Where from the States?" he asked.
"Illinois"
"What is a boy from Illinois doing in the city of Aethria?" he asked him.He noticed the diary in Aze's hand. He stared at the book for a second and asked Aze."You came for the Zennora house, right?"Aze was surprised.
"Yes, "Aze slowed down his breathing focusing on how to continue the conversation.
"The place used to be heaven for children. The kids came and cried and they lived there dancing ..and playing "-He remembered the good old days of the city.
"Nobody came to visit here, after the mother Annis' tragic death.." he continued "except her daughter "
Aze was shocked to hear that.
"Did she have a daughter?" he asked.
"She had many daughters and sons, but only one by blood. And she was the only one who escaped the death, while the rest of her kids died that day."He was murmuring the words. Aze couldn't catch them completely.
"Can I get her address?"
" Why are you searching for them, boy? Are you related to them!?"
He asked.
"Oh, I remember, she left a letter here when she came last time, about 2 or 3 years ago "
The old man went to a room, inside the cafe.
He came back with a letter, in his hand.
It was all dusty and old.
"She asked me to give this to someone coming to the Zennora house. But, I don't remember whom she mentioned "The old man was sticking pieces of memories."Hey Boy, Are you coming? There's no bus for another 24 hours."
The bus driver was yelling at Aze.
He finished the coffee and took the diary."Can I take this?"-He asked the old man to get the letter, which was sealed.
"Yes, It is already so old and torn. I don't think I'll live long enough to keep it safe anymore. You can take it if it's of any help"
Aze took the letter.
"Thank you"- he said and ran back to the bus.The bus was tracing through the curves, taking Aze away from his home, his mother.
Aze was the only passenger on the bus. His eyes were running through the vast meadows stretching between the roads. He was lost in thought, reliving the night.
He didn't know what had happened to him or how he had fallen unconscious. His muscles still ached with weakness, but he didn't bother thinking about it. He was relieved to be home, even if only for a few moments. The exhaustion seemed to melt away, replaced by a deep sense of relaxation - it felt like the deep sleep he had always wanted. And as he settled in, he realized the weight in his chest was gone. But as he drifted off to sleep, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was waiting for him, just beyond the edge of his dreams.*
