It was freshman year in college. You had gotten into the best school in Korea to study business management in the entertainment industry. That's where you found your love for writing. And decided to add a minor in writing. Of course, that ended up becoming your major and when your comics and books took off you graduated early to focus on the book tours. All while your love was debuting and working hard to be the next best Kpop group. They were really good too.
Your step dad was Korean. He met your mom when you were 5. A few months after your dad had passed from cancer. That's how you'd learned about Korea and he played a big part in you studying there. He'd been one of the doctors that worked on the floor your dad had been on. He'd always been so nice to you when he saw you in the hallway sitting in the waiting chairs. You remembered him because you always thought he had the kindest eyes.
He'd been in the ER when your mom brought you in with a broken arm. You had stupidly wanted to be just like your older brother Eric and well that back fired. You'd tried an olly on his skate board. (Yes. Skateboarding at 5. Don't judge) Thing was instead of using the little skate board he had gotten for you because you were 5. You were on his. And you landed it. You were so happy but then the skateboard went one way and you went the other. You had put your arm up to brace yourself for the landing and landed right in the corner of the side walk. That was probably the worst pain of your life. You had fractured your humerus. And were in a cast for forever. (It seemed like forever) But he'd been the doctor through the visit in the ER and my recovery. And him and ma got close and became friends. About a year later he finally got the courage to ask her out. The rest is history.
You started visiting Korea for the holidays and summers. Sometimes with him sometimes just us. If he had lots of work he wouldn't go. But you loved his family. And they loved you guys just as much.
Mom was a lone wolf. She'd never been close to her family and you really didn't know them. But his family embraced you and loved you like you were his. They doted on you, spoiled you and would steal you from them all the time. Saying you needed to learn Korean and embrace being Korean even though you are clearly not. You still smile at that. Them teaching you and showing you the Korean culture. You should call them. Grandma had sent you messages and prayers every day. You feel guilty again. But she always ended them with "It will get better bug. Remember I love you." Yeah, you need to call her.
Being over there during the summers is how you had met him. He was visiting his family. They lived next door to your grandma. It was the summer after your 9th birthday. You had been outside sad because it was the first year Eric was gone for college. He'd graduated and moved to Boston to study. You missed him so much and had been moping around sad and crying because he wasn't there.
He'd seen you sitting on the swing set with tears in your eyes and he'd walked up to you so quietly and startled you when he said hi and touched your shoulder. Your reaction of course because you're a feisty little shit, was to scream and swing. When your hand connected to his face you were immediately sorry. He fell back grabbing his nose. Which of course was now gushing blood. You told him you were sorry and helped him up. You used your shirt to stop the bleeding. The commotion had caused all the parents to come out and you were red with guilt when they came up to you. You apologized and explained what happened. He corroborated the story. Daddy Hoseok quickly tended to his nose. He kind of had a smirk on his face. Unlike your mom, who was not amused. Thank God it wasn't broken. Dad helped him and apologized again on your behalf to his family.
You didn't think you'd ever see him again. But not two hours later he was outside this time clearing his throat on his approach. You turned and went beat red. Feeling bad when you saw the bruise making its way around his nose and eyes.
You noticed his big brown eyes. Such kind eyes.
