Lance

Lance Mclean stared out the window admiring the view. The view itself was a gorgeous girl walking past their class with her friends. He sighed dreamily until he was brought out of his fantasies by a tap on the shoulder. He glanced towards Hunk who held a finger to his mouth and pointed to the teacher who was handing out a stack of paper. Paper? Oh their grades. Hunk tapped his foot impatiently, then stopped and immediately started again and Lance couldn't help feeling nervous as well. This time he had certainly done worse. He recalled thinking it was written in another language and his shock when Hunk seemed to actually understand it.

"Alright everyone most of you did pretty well however some of you need to step up your game." Mr. Leonard examined the classroom and Lance was sure he took his time on purpose so the students felt anxious. One by one he handed out their grades, rarely complimenting them and Hunk gasped when he got his.

"Show it to me" Lance whispered and Hunk hesitantly spun it around. "An 80! Hunk what are you worried about, you literally got such a good score." He hissed and Hunk shrugged.

"I guess I just wanted to-" he was cut off mid-sentence by Mr. Leonard approaching them and placing a paper face down on Lance's desk.

"Talk to me after class" was all he said and Lance hesitantly peeled the paper off his desk and his eyes widened in horror.

"What did you get?" Hunk whispered and Lance shook his head at his best friend. He watched Hunk frown slightly before he sighed and quickly passed it. Hunk smiled at him. "It can't be that bad-" His voice quieted down and Lance banged his head on the desk.

A few students shot glares at him and a girl in front of him jumped in surprise and glanced side to side. Even the teacher raised an eyebrow in his direction but before he could comment on Lance's behaviour a shrill cry echoed around the classroom. A few students blocked their ears at their terrible bell but Lance glared at his desk, tears threatening to fall. Never had he ever gotten such a bad grade. Never! Students packed out the classroom and he finally glanced up to see Hunk standing over him holding out his paper sympathetically.

"I'll wait for you outside, okay?" Lance nodded, grabbed the paper and shoved it into his bag as he walked to the teachers desk. Mr. Leonard was impatiently waiting for him along with a few other students. "These must be all the students who failed" he thought as he joined their line and faced Mr. Leonard. As expected they were asked what had happened and given extra homework to take home. Mr. Leonard was known to be everyone's favourite however he absolutely despised it when students scored low on a test without a proper reason. Mr Leonard finally looked at Lance who was nervously fiddling with his school bag strap. "Lance, is everything ok at home?"

Lance blinked. "Of course... everything's alright sir, why wouldn't it be?" And it was the truth.

"Because your grades have been slipping a lot Lance" he nodded towards a piece of paper and Lance's eyes widened when he realised that his average grades had gone down from an 80 to a  30 in just a month. He gulped.

"Well... I'll do better sir. I promise."

"That's what you said last time Lance and I think you need help. Do you have a tutor?" Mr. Leonard nodded when Lance shook his head and he sighed. "Alright then you can come to my after school sessions."

Lance frowned almost immediately. He didn't want to lose two hours of his time to study even more work but deep down he knew Mr. Leonard was right.

"But sir I don-" he never got the chance to finish his sentence as Mr. Leonard interrupted him.
