Dreadful Monday

After spending her weekend moping about the events of the last Friday, the dreadful Monday Yasmine wished wouldn't come had finally arrived.

"It was just one night, Yaz. I'm sure he won't fire you for that, it takes two to tango you know." Amelia winked at Yasmine from across the couch, trying to shoo away the dark cloud looming above her friend's head.

"I wouldn't put it past him to fire me." Yasmine sighed, stirring her now cold cup of coffee for the umpteenth time that morning. "Do you even know why I got this job?" She asked.

"'Cause you're damn good at what you do," Amelia hyped her up, trying to sound a little bit interested in what Yasmine was about to say.

"I'm being serious here."

"Fine then, I don't why you got the job... but I'm sure you'll tell me anyway."

Ignoring her friend's obvious disinterest, Yasmine continued talking. "His last secretary tried to seduce him so he fired her, on the spot... The one before her was fired for doing something similar."

"Your point being." Amelia rolled her eyes as she reached for the strawberries on Yasmine's plate.

"My point being," Yasmine swatted her hand away, "they were both fired for seducing him. James has a low-tolerance policy for indecent behavior in the workplace- what's more indecent than sleeping with your boss at the company's celebration party?! I could lose my job or- or get blacklisted from the industry... I could lose it all." Yasmine spiraled into a bubble of paranoia, thinking about all the fun ways James could use to ruin her.

"Get it together girl." Amelia violently shook her shoulders. "It's not like you drugged him, dragged him to the room, and then tied him up to sleep with him. He's  6'2! Your tiny 5'4 ass couldn't carry him anywhere alone even if you were high on drugs." She let go of Yasmine's shoulders and downed her cold coffee like it was a glass of beer. "The only thing I'm getting from this story of yours  is that dearest Daddy James is allergic to hot girls and cowers away like a virgin when one flashes him a boob or tries to get to him."

"I'm not joking Ameilia."

"Neither am I! Look, my point is, you didn't sleep with him and he didn't sleep with you, you both slept with each other! It was a mutual agreement between two consenting and horny adults and if he fires you for that then he's a bigger ass than I thought. He's a hot guy and it's clear he craves attention from the opposite gender because why would he keep hiring female secretaries if he's that against a woman developing a tiny crush on him? It's not that hard to hire a male secretary you know."

"I guess you're right."

"Of course, I'm right. I'm always right." Amelia winked. "Besides, if you get fired, I'll be sure to take care of you." She blew Yasmine a kiss.

"You're unemployed and last I checked you've been living on my couch since yesterday after your parents kicked you out."

"Oh... fuck!"

They both burst out laughing at the situation they were in. Yasmine and her boss's situation and Amelia's unemployment and homeless situation.

"Oh god, I need a drink to get rid of all this stress." Amelia whined, screaming into the pillow like a child.

"Isn't 'a drink' what got you kicked out in the first place." Yasmine chuckled.

"Alright, Sherlocke, I don't need you pulling a mom card on me so get your ass to work before you join me in the unemployment club, there's room for one more."

"I'm going." Yasmine rolled her eyes as she put on her black stilettos. "There's food in the fridge, just heat it up for lunch once you're ready to eat."

"You're the best." Amelia excitedly planted a wet kiss on Yasmine's face. Nothing lifted her mood more than a good meal, something the two have in common.

"I know."

Yasmine checked herself in the mirror once more, making sure she looked presentable for work. "If it's my last day at work, I should at least look good while getting fired." She murmured.

"That's the spirit! Make 'em regret losing a gem like you." Amelia burst out laughing after hearing Yasmine's whines. "Don't worry, I'll have ice cream and cookies ready when you get back. Just in case you need some comfort after losing your job."

Yasmine flipped her middle finger at her and charged out of the house, slamming the door behind her.

"Cheer up, honey."

She heard Ameilia's voice moments through the closed door. Smiling, Yasmine walked away, Amelia always knew how to lift her mood, albeit in her own twisted ways.

Luckily for her, Monday wasn't as awful as Saturday. The elevator was working and she managed to catch a taxi seconds after getting out. "I hope this is a sign my day will go well." Yasmine crossed her fingers, praying for the universe to help her get through the day with her job still intact.

Just as she was about to relax and catch her breath, the taxi driver spoke up. "Ma'am, it appears there was an accident not too far from here. We're stuck in traffic and it might take a while."

"Oh, fuck!"

It seems as though the universe wasn't too keen on seeing her happy.
