"I'm not worried about that. But you seem awfully focused on beating me. What's your deal?" Jake said with raised his eyebrows

"My deal? I just can't stand how everyone thinks you're perfect.". Lia said and rolled her eyes.

As time passes, Jake starts noticing something different about Lia. Despite her tough exterior, there are moments when she seems vulnerable, lost in thought. Late one evening, after staying late to finish a project, Jake overhears Lia talking on the phone, her voice filled with anxiety.

"I know, Mom. But I have to get this scholarship. We can't afford tuition otherwise. I just... I just need to win." Lia is talking to her mother on the phone.

Jake realizes that Lia's fierce determination comes from more than just competition-it's about survival. The next day, during their usual banter, he can't help but confront her.

"Lia, why do you push yourself so hard? It's not just about beating me, is it?" Jake said as he worries about her

"Why do you care? Just stay out of it, Jake..." Lia said defensively.

"I care because... because I see how much pressure you're under. You don't have to do this alone." Jake said gently.

Their rivalry begins to shift after that conversation. Jake finds himself helping Lia in subtle ways, covering for her in class when she's overwhelmed and even letting her win a few debates. Lia, in turn, starts opening up to him, sharing her struggles and dreams.

The scholarship competition approaches, and in a surprising twist, Lia wins. Jake congratulates her, but there's a heaviness in the air, as if something important is left unsaid. As they walk out of the academy together, Jake finally gathers the courage to speak his heart.

"Lia, there's something I've been meaning to tell you. This whole time, while we were competing... I wasn't just focused on winning. I was focused on you."

"What do you mean?" Lia said as she confused what Jake meaning.

Jake clear throat nervously...

Lia is stunned, her tough exterior melting away for a moment. She looks into Jake's eyes, seeing the sincerity in his words.

"Jake... I don't know what to say. I never imagined you'd feel this way."

"You don't have to say anything now. Just... think about it. We don't have to be rivals anymore. We can be something more." Jake said and give Lia sweet smile that he has.

The story ends with Lia nodding slowly, a small smile forming on her lips. There's a sense of hope in the air, the beginning of a new chapter for both of them-not as rivals, but as something much more.
