Chapter 42

   I saw Clara in the streets. She looked at me and waved at me. I went towards her. I asked her, “What are you doing here at this hour?” It was 12 pm in the morning. 

  She said, “My boyfriend is coming here. I will meet him.” Oh right. Clara has a boyfriend. She never told me about him. Well I didn't know his name. Suddenly a man came towards us.

  It was Chris. I looked at him and said, “Is it you, Chris?” He smiled at me and said, “Lydia. Oh my god. We are meeting after so many years.” Clara looked at us and said, “You both know each other.” We both said yes. 

   Josh was looking at us from far away. He was a bit jealous seeing me with Chris. Julia spotted Josh and went towards him. She said, “You seemed jealous. Do you like Lydia?” 

  Josh said, “No. Of course not.” He moved towards his car. Julia came towards us happily. She met Chris. Clara asked, “How do you guys know each other?” Julia said, “We were in high school together. We were best friends.” 

   Then we went to Clara’s house. She said, “I am moving to Texas with Chris.” I was shocked. I asked, “You didn't told me about it.” Chris said, “Actually, I have opened an restaurant. And Clara and I are going to work there. It's our restaurant.” 

   “I am very happy for you guys.” I said. Clara said, “Today is my last day here. Will you guys join us for dinner?” Julia and I agreed. We were chit chatting with Chris. 

  Chris was telling us about our old days. He asked me, “So how's Josh?” Clara said to me, “Your ex-boyfriend Josh, right Lydia.” I nodded. 

   “Wait, ex-boyfriend.” Chris exclaimed. Julia said, “Shocking news to you too, right. Josh broke up with Lydia eight years ago.” Chris was astonished. 

   “But didn't he propose to you a few days ago. You said yes to him.” Becca said. Clara added, “Yes, Julia was helping Josh so that you forgive him.” 

I said, “Yes, and then he had an accident in which he lost his memories. Now we are not together.”

 Julia said, “Don't worry, Lydia is trying to win Josh back. Even today I saw Josh. He seemed jealous when Lydia was talking to Chris.” I said, “So he has feelings for me.”

   Chris said, “Don't think about it. You always do it.” Becca asked Chris, “What do you mean?” He said, “Well. Lydia’s feelings for Josh are like. I love Josh. I hate Josh. I love Josh. I hate Josh. And the same thing again and again.” 

  I said, “It's not true.” Julia said, “Ahh. Well, don't you remember the past days. First you said that you loved Josh but then you found out that he broke hearts so you rejected him. And then the panic attack incident. Your memory loss incident. And many more.” 

  Clara said, “If he's that bad then why are you trying to win him back.” I said, “See good things also. He saved me from Max when I was dying. He saved me when I was having panic attacks. Also the pool incident a few days ago. And many times. He cares about me.” 

   Julia said, “Fine. He is perfect for you. You two are destined to be together.” It was almost night. We had our dinner. Clara had already packed her bag. She was leaving with Chris. We said goodbye to Clara and Chris.
