Memories And Coffee Shops

An hour later the group were rumbling west. There was no problem about who would drive now, because they all got our own luxury car. Zoe and Bianca were crashed out in a Lexus on the top deck. Grover was playing race car driver behind the wheel of a Lamborghini. Percy and Snow were standing to the side talking quietly to each other. And Thalia had hot-wired the radio in a black Mercedes SLK so she could pick up the alt-rock stations from D.C.

“I’m thinking of talking to Thalia for a bit,” Percy said. “Want to come?”

Snow stared at him for a moment, then shook her head. “No, you go. I want to talk to Grover.”

Percy frowned in confusion. “Grover? Why?”

“Can’t I talk to him?” Snow said teasingly.

“No. No, you can,” Percy said. Snow knew he wanted to say more but refrained. He gave her a smile and a nod. “I’ll be back.”

Snow nodded as well. She watched him make his way over to Thalia before heading to Grover. When she stood next to him, the satyr didn’t need her to state the reason for her presence. His playful look turned serious and worrisome.

“I was hoping Percy would keep you distracted,” Grover sighed.

“We can’t delay this,” Snow told him. “We need to find a way to tell Bianca. We can’t walk up to her and directly say it. But we can’t sugarcoat the truth either. From what we saw, she’s pretty fixed in her belief that she’s still in her time period. But I’m sure with convincing and proof, we can make her realize.”

Grover wringed his hands unsurely, his eyes darting around as though he’s trying to find something to nervously chew on. “What about the others? I recall you trying to tell Percy as well.”

Snow went to where Percy was and nodded. She had wanted to tell him, way back when they were reeling from the aftermath with the fight against that manticore. But they had been interrupted.

“True. We can tell Percy, then maybe Thalia and Zoe,” she said. “I hope Bianca doesn’t think we’ve been keeping this big secret from her.”

“Well, technically we have,” Grover pointed out. “At least, the two of us have.”

“By accident,” Snow countered. “If there hadn’t been so much going on since, Bianca and Nico would’ve known the truth.”

Grover nodded to that. “So…do we tell Percy now or…?”

Snow looked at Percy, then Thalia, then the two Hunters. She observed each of them, and their expressions made her shake her head.

“It’s been a long day,” Snow said. “We’re all tired and will all be resting soon. We can tell him tomorrow.”

Grover didn’t attest to that. When Snow turned to Percy again, she saw Thalia raise the power windows, shutting him out. Curiosity peaking at the action, she made her way over to him after waving goodbye to Grover.

“What was that about?” she asked.

Percy sighed through his nose. “Just…another argument I guess. It’s a long story.”
