Writer note: this is the final chapter! Thank you so much for all of the love on this story, it means a lot. This has been my favourite story to write and I'm so happy it's been well received 😊

Five years later

Nick's POV

"Come on, let's go get a drink." I say softly as I stand up, offering Charlie my hand.
"Yeah, okay." He says quietly, standing up and sliding his hand into mine.
"It'll be fine baby." I say, pulling him into a hug and stroking the back of his head to calm his nerves.
"I know, I'm just nervous. We've wanted this for so long." He says, his voice shaking a little.

I bring my head up to look at him, cupping his face with my hands and stroking his cheeks with my thumbs. I still can't believe how lucky I am to have this beautiful man as my husband.

I lean forward and kiss his forehead.
"I love you." I whisper, my lips brushing against his skin.
"I love you too." He whispers back.

I take his hand again and we walk down the hospital corridor to the coffee machine. I pour him a coffee and pass it to him before pouring myself a tea.
"Thank you gorgeous." He says softly as he sips his drink.
"Do you want to go for a walk?" I ask.
"Can we just wait here?"
"Of course." I say, smiling at him.

We go back to where we were sitting. I intertwine my fingers with his and we sit in a comfortable silence. I'm also starting to feel nervous and I think Charlie picks up on it because he gently squeezes my hand.

Half an hour passes and then I see a doctor walking down the corridor towards us.
"Nick and Charlie Nelson-Spring?" He asks.
"Yeah?" I say, sitting up straight.
"We're ready for you now." He says, smiling at us.

I look at Charlie, the nerves really kicking in and he's visibly shaking. I give his hand a gentle squeeze, standing up and he stands too. We follow the doctor down the corridor, it feels like we're walking in slow motion.

He opens the door to a room with soft lighting. I smile at Isabelle, the woman we have grown so close to over the past few months, and she smiles back. She looks exhausted but her face softens as she moves her eyes over to a clear bassinet.

I follow her eyes and see a bundle of blankets, moving a slightly. I look at Charlie his eyes are already fixated on it, his mouth dropped open a little as his breathing shakes.

"Are you two ready to meet your daughter?" The midwife asks us, smiling warmly.
"Daughter?" Charlie breathes.
"Yeah, it's a little girl." Isabelle says softly.

The midwife picks the baby up and I put my arm around Charlie's shoulder and she walks over. I have tears in my eyes as I look at the most perfect little face I've ever seen.
"Would you like to hold her?" The midwife asks.
"Charlie?" I ask, my voice shaking.
"You go first." He says, smiling at me.
"Are you sure?" I ask.
"Yeah." He says softly.

I take my arm off of his shoulders as the midwife passes me our daughter. I hold her close to my chest, one hand supporting her bum and the other hand supporting her head.
"You're so tiny." I giggle softly, pressing a gentle kiss onto the top of her head.
"She's just over six pounds." The midwife says.
"She's so small." Charlie coos.
"Thank you." I whisper, looking at Isabelle and blinking away tears.
"She's the luckiest little girl in the world, you're the loveliest people I've ever met." She says, smiling and I smile back.

I look at Charlie, he's smiling at me affectionately with eyes full of love.
"Do you want to hold her now?" I ask, smiling at him.
"Okay." He says, beaming.
