Anne's POV:(that night just before the show)
I look at myself in my mirror, making sure not a single hair can be seen through my wig. Tonight is one of the most important shows ever, for an important investor will be in the audience. That could mean new equipment for everyone, a bigger tent to fit new acts, things like that. I'm just finishing my makeup when I feel a familiar pair of arms wrap around my waist. I smile slightly.
"You ready for tonight?" Phillip asks me.
"Of course I am. Tonight is a big night after all."
"Yes it is. Break a leg, sweetheart."
"Thanks, you too!"
I give Phillip a quick kiss before looking into the audience, seeing Amelia and Isla sitting with P.T. and Charity. I smile seeing my two beautiful daughters so happy.
I take one last deep breath, and walk out to my ring, ready to perform.
I look around at all my fellow performers and good friends. We perform together so often, but it never gets old. I'm so proud of the life we've been able to achieve.
I begin my routine, watching faces of all ages light up around me, and I smile down at young children.
The hoop starts moving in a new direction, so I begin to turn the other way. But then I have to do a double take.
Eleanor.
My mouth gaped at the sight. I was not expecting this, not here, not now! My hands begin to slip on the hoop, and W.D. looks at me confusedly and concerned.
But there's nothing he can do in time.
And I fall.
Phillip's POV:
I watch Anne effortlessly spinning around in her hoop. She looks perfect, moving across the room, the other performers the cherry on top.
She looks flawless. Her moves, her outfit, her hair, when suddenly her face looks contorted almost with pain. Her jaw drops, and I watch as her hands instantly slip, sweating instantly. She stumbles a bit, falling off the hoop completely.
I've never run so fast.
My legs pounding against the floor, I sprint over to where Anne is falling, careful not to knock anyone over either.
By some miracle, I get to Anne just before she hits the ground. She lands right in my arms, both of our hearts pounding against each other's chest. I feel Anne breathing heavily against me.
"What happened!?" I ask, whispering so no one becomes suspicious.
"Eleanor, she's here. I-I couldn't handle it and I-I fell." Anne replies, tears pricking the corners of her eyes.
"Hey, hey. It's okay. We'll worry about her later. For now, I'm just glad you didn't get hurt." I replied.
I slowly carry Anne off stage, everyone else continuing on with the show like it was an act.
I set Anne down at her makeup stand, her heart beating in my ear.
"You just stay here and relax for the rest of the show. I don't want you getting hurt." I say, holding Anne's hand.
"Yeah, I think that's for the best." Anne says, her breathing slowly going back to normal.
I smile at her, and she smiles at me. I give her one last kiss, and walk out to finish the show.
