I woke up to a small hand grabbing at my nightgown, gently shaking me. "Hey, sissy..." Victoria, my younger sister and one of the twins, whispered. "There's a scary puppy outside..." She mumbles, pointing at the window beside her and her sister's bed.
"Don't be silly, Vicky, there's nothing there." I reassure her, tossing the blanket off of me and getting out of my bed to pick her up. I walk her to her bed, gently laying her down." See, nothing-" I smile, opening the curtain to show her. As I look out the window, I see an oversized wolf pacing back and forth. I panic, closing the window so she wouldn't see it. "It's okay, I'll..." I pause, unsure of what I should do. "It's fine, Vic, no need to worry, okay?" I gently run my hand through her blonde hair.
Once I was sure that she was asleep, I snuck out of the room and into my parents' room. I gently wake them up, explaining the situation. I snuck back into my room, waking up my sisters and telling them to get in the closet, playing it off as a game of hide and seek. After a few minutes, there's no word from my father, so I sneak outside.
My heart stops as I see just how massive the wolf is, I rush back inside, grabbing my knife. I rush back out and see my father, laying on the ground in a pool of his own crimson colored blood. My mother rushes to his body, screaming hysterically, begging him to get up. The wolf runs, I tried to warn her, to run and push her out of the way, but my body is frozen. All I could do was watch as the wolf pounced on her, taking a bite of her neck. I watch as her blood splashes on the pearly white walls of our house.
The turns to stare at me, and I shakily held up the knife. I knew I couldn't do anything against the wolf, but I had to at least threaten it. The wolf leaped at me but landed behind me. I was in shock, but quickly snapped out of it as I heard my sister, Elise, screaming. I spun around to see the twins standing in front of the wolf, sobbing. I threw the knife and hit the beast in its paw, but there was no reaction. I screamed and lunged at the wolf, but before I got close, it lunged at my sisters, tearing them apart. The other girls screamed from the window, catching its attention.
It jumps through the window to attack them, doing so successfully. I run inside, tears falling uncontrollably. I grab the closest thing to me and ran into the woods. The ground was covered in 2 feet of snow, at least. All I had was my night gown and boots on.
The cold made it hard to breathe as I shuffled through the snow. The snow in my boots froze my feet, making it even harder to walk. I had been walking for hours, trying to find something, someone, anything. My home had been taken away from me by those monsters. Everything was lost, my family, my home, my childhood. I was also lost, I had just run in a direction, I don't know where I am. I was tired and hungry; I hadn't even grabbed anything useful. For God's sake, I had only grabbed my notebook of all things. I didn't even grab a pencil. I look up to see the large wall that separates the humans and those creatures.
I could've sworn I had heard a footstep behind me, but when I spun around, whoever it was, was gone. I was so tired. Taking a step forward, my leg gave out. I trip, landing flat on my face. I saw someone walk towards me as my eyes unwillingly closed
