The first girl was standing strong and trying her best to be brave for the three of them.
"I know it's you Stacey." she said, even though she couldn't see me.
"You're right. It is me." I said. "I want you to know that you're on camera, and, if you want to die with any honor, don't make this hard for me."
The one girl that was shaking started crying, too. I had to admit, I felt terrible for this girl. She was so incredibly scared, just as I was on my first day.
I pulled off their blindfolds and let them soak up their last moments.
"Now, I don't want to have to kill you like a coward, so I'm gonna let you get a head start with a run. If, that's what you want."
The moment I unclipped the chains, two girls bolted in different directions. The first girl, remained in front of me holding her ground.
"Kill me now. Don't drag it out or play games with me Stacey. Just do it." I looked into her eyes, noticing something familiar about them. They were the color of jade and intensified her facial features. Everything about her held a sort of knowingness. Something smart and witty.
"Not until you tell me who you are."
She gave a slight roll of her eyes. "Stacey, you already know who I am."
My jaw dropped almost to the ground. She was right, I did know who she was. It was the girl who saved me.
~~~~~
The bullies at school noticed me for the first time. They went after me repeatedly, and wouldn't leave me alone. One day, it went too far.
I had fell to the ground after one of them had shoved me. I was crying and huddled up in the corner when the kicking started.
It didn't take long until someone stepped in.
"Hey! Leave Stacey alone!" she screamed over the bullies laughter. When they didn't listen, she took to desperate measures.
She shoved one guy against the lockers and punched him in the nose. He fell to the ground clutching his face in pain. Then she pushed the others out of her way to reach me.
Her hand was held out while I was debating whether or not to take it. When she saw my hesitation, she grabbed me, pulled me up, and we ran.
~~~~~
That was when I realized something. Something that made my heart skip a few beats. The feeling of betrayal fell upon me as I got a closer look at her.
"You're...You're from my school..." I said, barely able to choke it out. She nodded.
"So are they. We were pulling a prank on the other school when this guy," she pointed up to the window. "grabbed us."
I looked up to meet the gaze of Him.
"This wasn't part of the deal!" I screamed up to the window. Confusion spread over his face. Then he disappeared, only to reappear at the back door.
"What wasn't part of the deal?" he asked. I shoved my finger toward the girls that were now huddled together.
"They're from my school!" I whined.
A new expression fluttered on the verge of showing deep concern, but he fought it back so he could look careless.
"Well, Stacey, I'm sorry for the mix up, but there's nothing I can do now."
My jaw dropped open. "You don't really expect me to kill them now, do you?" I screamed.
He shook his head. "Of course not. They'll join you in the deal. I truly am sorry about the confusion." Then he gave a sneer and walked back into the house.
All of the girls were terrified. The girl I knew, stepped forward.
"I'm not killing anyone." she said bravely. The other girls muttered their agreements.
"Well, I guess it's your choice. You can live, and work with me, or, you can die."
The girls turned away so they could discuss it. I couldn't tell what they were saying, but they weren't agreeing.
Then they turned back to me. "They'll help you, but I refuse." said the girl I knew.
I nodded, not quiet understanding her reasons, and pulled out the knife.
"What's your name?" I asked.
She stood strong as I walked closer. "Mia." she answered.
I grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her close.
"Well Mia, you are a very brave girl. I'm sorry I have to do this."
Then I plunged the knife into her neck and watched as she dropped to the ground lifelessly.
The other girls were crying. I now understood why she had chose this - it was because she died with dignity.
"Come on. Let Him clean it up. We can go find you a room."
Then we walked off into the house.
~~~~~
Panic had overwhelmed him when he realized his mistake. He knew he had the power to kill all three, but there was something different about the way they acted. The one girl stood strong at the chance to run. No one had ever done that before, not even Stacey.
He carried his self out the back door, thinking that he would find it clean, because, after all, he had chose to let them all live.
To his surprise, he found the girl that had amazed him so, lying dead on the ground.
He sucked in a breathe and began to lift her into the body shed.
The smell in there was so revolting, that he nearly vomited up his lunch. As quick as he could, he launched her body onto a shelf, slammed the door, and made a run back to the house. He knew it was only a matter of time before he got sick everywhere, so he bolted to the washroom.
Outside the door, he could hear Stacey giving the other two girls a tour of the house. He couldn't let her know that he was sick, so he swallowed his disgust and opened the door.
"Hello girls. I'm afraid we haven't been properly introduced. What's your names?"
The bigger looking girl, with her long dark hair talked first.
"I'm Mckenzie. That's Rachael." she said before putting her head down to face the floor. "And Mia's the girl that's dead."
The room went into an awkward silence before Stacey rushed the girls away.
After the girls left, he went back into the washroom.
