The restaurant was elegant, the kind of place Jae had only ever seen in movies or on TV. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting a warm, golden light over the room. The tables were draped in crisp white linens, each one adorned with a small vase of fresh flowers. A soft, classical melody played in the background, adding to the atmosphere of refined sophistication.

Jimmy guided Jae to their table, his hand resting gently on the small of Jae’s back. As they sat down, Jae couldn’t help but feel a bit out of place, but Jimmy’s reassuring smile quickly put him at ease. Jimmy looked stunning in his formal attire, his hair perfectly styled and his eyes filled with warmth as they met Jae’s.

“You look incredible,” Jimmy said softly, his gaze never leaving Jae’s face. The sincerity in his voice made Jae blush, his heart fluttering in his chest.

“Thank you,” Jae replied, his voice barely above a whisper. “But you… you look amazing.”

Jimmy chuckled, reaching across the table to take Jae’s hand in his. “I wanted tonight to be special. You deserve that, Jae.”

As the evening went on, they talked and laughed, the conversation flowing easily between them. Jae found himself relaxing more and more, the tension and confusion that had been plaguing him for days slowly melting away. He felt comfortable with Jimmy—safe, even—and that was something he hadn’t felt in a long time.

The food was exquisite, each dish more delicious than the last, but it wasn’t the meal that made the night memorable for Jae. It was the way Jimmy looked at him, with such affection and care, that made him feel truly special. With each passing moment, Jae realized just how much he liked being with Jimmy. It wasn’t the same as the intense, overwhelming feelings he had for Jake, but it was something else—something steady and comforting.

By the time they finished dessert, Jae was feeling lighter than he had in weeks. His heart still ached with the unresolved emotions he had for Jake, but there was something new blossoming inside him, something warm and hopeful. And it had everything to do with the man sitting across from him.

After dinner, Jimmy suggested they head back to his place to relax. Jae agreed, eager to prolong the evening. When they arrived at Jimmy’s apartment, it felt like stepping into another world—one that was calm, inviting, and free from the chaos that usually filled Jae’s life.

“Why don’t you get comfortable?” Jimmy suggested as he slipped out of his jacket. “I’ll grab some snacks and drinks.”

Jae nodded, quickly changing into a pair of sweats and a comfortable hoodie. He made his way to the living room, where he sank into the plush sofa, letting out a contented sigh. This felt right—being here with Jimmy, away from all the complications and heartache.

He flicked through the channels on the TV, eventually settling on a light-hearted movie. As he did, he couldn’t help but think about how different things were with Jimmy compared to Jake. With Jimmy, there was no pressure, no fear—just a quiet kind of happiness that made Jae feel like maybe, just maybe, he deserved to be loved in a way that didn’t hurt.

When Jimmy returned, he set a tray of snacks and drinks on the coffee table before sitting down beside Jae. The smile never left his face as he reached for the remote, turning up the volume slightly. For a while, they simply watched the movie, the only sounds being the dialogue from the screen and the occasional crunch of a chip.

But then, as the movie played on, Jimmy shifted closer to Jae, slipping his arm around Jae’s shoulders. Jae’s heart raced, but he didn’t pull away. Instead, he leaned into Jimmy’s embrace, resting his head against Jimmy’s chest. It felt natural, like they had done this a hundred times before.

Jimmy’s heartbeat was steady and soothing, and Jae found himself relaxing even more. His eyes fluttered closed, a sense of peace washing over him as he let himself be held. He could feel the warmth of Jimmy’s body against his, the gentle rise and fall of his chest as he breathed. It was comforting in a way that Jae hadn’t expected, and he couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at his lips.

Then, without warning, Jimmy gently lifted Jae’s chin, tilting his face up. Jae opened his eyes, his breath catching as he met Jimmy’s gaze. The look in Jimmy’s eyes was so full of love and tenderness that it made Jae’s heart skip a beat.

Slowly, almost hesitantly, Jimmy leaned down and pressed his lips to Jae’s in a soft, gentle kiss. It was sweet and tender, nothing like the rough, bruising kisses Jae had experienced with Jake. This was different—it was full of emotion, full of care, and it made Jae’s heart swell in his chest.

When they finally broke apart, Jimmy rested his forehead against Jae’s, his eyes closed as he whispered, “I love you, Jae. I know it’s complicated, and I know you’re still figuring things out, but I just needed you to know that.”

Jae didn’t know what to say. His emotions were a tangled mess, his mind racing with thoughts of Jake and Jimmy and everything in between. But in that moment, all he could focus on was the man in front of him—the man who had been there for him through everything, who had shown him nothing but kindness and love.

“I… I care about you too,” Jae finally whispered, his voice trembling slightly. “I just… I don’t know what to do, Jimmy.”

Jimmy smiled softly, his thumb brushing over Jae’s cheek. “You don’t have to do anything, Jae. We’ll figure it out together, okay? No rush, no pressure.”

Jae nodded, tears pricking at the corners of his eyes. He didn’t deserve Jimmy—he knew that—but he was so grateful to have him. And as they settled back into the sofa, Jae cuddling closer to Jimmy’s side, he allowed himself to believe that maybe, just maybe, everything would be okay.

For the first time in what felt like forever, Jae felt like he had a choice—like he could choose happiness, choose love, without fear of getting hurt. And as he drifted off to sleep in Jimmy’s arms, he couldn’t help but hope that he was making the right one.
