The Echo in the Mountains

Chapter two

The boy made it to his cabin and opened the door seeing his wolf dog lay on his bed waiting for him to come home. When the dog heard him come home he lifted his head and his tail wagged happily to see his owner come home. The dog watched the boy as he grabbed his bag and started putting clothes and weapons into his bag. The boy was mumbling how he hated the man who had just blackmailed him to join the rebellion.

As he packed a picture fell off his shelf of his family. His father, him and his two older brothers. This was the most recent photo they took as a family. His father had blonde hair and green eyes; his name was Arthur. Then his middle brother, Thomas who was older than him had blonde hair like their father and blue eyes like their mother but they all hated him. They hated him because he was a traitor to the kingdom because he had joined the evil king and his army. No matter how much they pleaded with him not to go he still left them. The eldest brother though hated him the most. The eldest brother, Arlo was a warrior for the land but he fought for himself and for his own protection. The boy used to fight for himself and protection but now he had to help the rebellion and fight against Thomas.

The boy looked at the photo and picked it up. The steel frame was cold against his finger tips as he put it gently on top of the other things he had in his bag then zipped it up and stood up. The boy patted the side of his leg and the dog got up and followed the boy as he went out of the cabin and onto the snowy mountains he lived on. The boy made it to the stairs that climbed up and down the mountain. Before he left he looked at the sunset that displayed beautiful colors. There was bright pink that changed the clouds into a salmon pink color and there was some purple in the clouds that was eating up the pink clouds and blue sky. As he watched the sunset with the wolf dog staying near the boy's leg a cold breeze hit him making his black hair sway to the left following the running breeze.

The boy sighed sorrowfully knowing this would be the last moments he had of peace and then he slowly turned around and made his way down the stairs to the end of the mountain with the wolf dog staying beside him. When he stopped moving he heard the snow owl's call echo from the mountain as if saying goodbye to the boy and the wolf dog.
