My daughter was arriving today and I wanted to go and get her. I haven't spoken to Katrina in a few days. I can't lie it's been making me feel a certain way. I been thinking about the whole thing. I know she has too.

While I was waiting for my baby to come out of the airport, I decided to text Katrina.

I put my phone down in the cup holder and pulled a fresh joint. I lit it and puffed on it. When I looked back up my heart dropped and began pounding. I saw my daughter standing outside looking for me. I carefully got out and walked around my truck, stepping into the sidewalk.

"Mulani!" I called. Her eyes landed on mine. "Daddy!" Her face visibly lit up. I pulled the joint from my mouth and smiled brightly as she ran to me. She leaped into my arms and I embraced her tightly. We stayed like that for a while.

"Lorenzo." I heard a familiar voice call my name. I froze and my face fell. I put my daughter down and I saw her. "Dominique?" My ex-wife was standing before me. I glanced at my daughter. She was smiling softly. I didn't know what nor how to feel. She had a bright smile on her face. I smiled softly. She walked toward me and embraced my neck. I hesitantly embraced her waist. We squeezed one another and I pulled back as memories flooded.

"I see you haven't quit smoking." She joked. "Ain't have no cigar in the truck." I replied with a laugh. "I can tell." She chuckled. I grabbed their bags and put them in the trunk. After I closed it I opened the doors for them both.

"How was y'all flight?" I asked when I drove off. "It was good. She had headphones on the whole time." Dominique said. I glanced in the mirror at my daughter. Her smile was beautiful, and contagious, making me smile as well. "How you been baby? How school?" I asked. "I've been good but I'm better now." She answered, I chuckled at her response. "School's been alright, just stressful." She continued. "Why what's goin' on?" I questioned. "The pandemic. I mean I know we aren't in quarantine anymore but it's still hard. It still feels like we're in it." She explained.
