The time is approaching noon.

Judith got out of the carriage and looked up. The sunlight shining diagonally from the dome-shaped roof was so dazzling that it stung. She looked at the building with her hands forming an awning, and then she quietly walked away. Her escort knights followed her, moving their feet heavily.

There were a lot of people coming in and out of the Imperial Palace each day, but the hallway leading to the library was deserted, probably because no one had any business there. Only the sound of Judith and the knights accompanying her was occasionally heard.

Security was tight because the Imperial Palace Library stored everything, from common books found in the author’s street to rare books that were said to be the only ones in the Empire. So, once you enter the hall, you must pass through two doors to reach the library, which consists of five floors.

The guards guarding each door looked at her with harsh eyes. Even so, when they checked her nameplate on the Duchy of Vaisil’s family, they immediately showed her courtesy. And after passing through two heavy doors, Judith finally reached the library.

She was just about to step inside when she heard the sickening sound of a window crashing behind her.

“Only those whose identities have been confirmed can enter.”

When she turned around, she saw that the guards were blocking the knight who was trying to follow her. Judith’s guard frowned as if asking what kind of nonsense this was. Noble ladies usually had a bodyguard accompany them anywhere other than their mansion. There were no exceptions.

However, Judith was visiting the Imperial Palace library for the first time today and did not know that she could not even have an escort inside the library. Even putting that aside, she thought they might be being too harsh than necessary. She thinks they would allow at least one more person inside.

There was no time to think deeply. The mood of the men glaring at each other was unusual. Judith quickly raised her hand as she felt that if she made a fuss here, her attempt would end in failure before she could even enter the library.

“Sir, could you please wait here?”

“Well, Madam, if something dangerous happens…”

“There will only be people like me who have been identified, so don’t worry.”

The knight reluctantly nodded at Judith’s persuasion. She went inside, leaving him fiddling with the handle of his sword as if he were anxious. The librarian sitting near the door seemed to have sensed her presence and helped her.

“Hello. What book are you looking for?”

Judith thought briefly as she approached him. Immediately mentioning the word devil seemed like it would arouse suspicion because it was not a common topic. After choosing her words, she finally opened her mouth cautiously.

“Are there any religious books?”

The librarian’s gaze quickly traveled from her head to her toes. Then he tilts his head slightly. No matter how you look at it, Judith looks like a modest noble lady, but his face looks as if he doesn’t know why she would want to look for a religious book. Not long after, he returns from his trance with a smile on his face and focuses on the current matter.

“I will guide you. Follow me.”

The librarian walked briskly and spoke well. These were mostly polite questions, so Judith followed suit, answering simply without showing any sign of discomfort.
