ㅤHe knows her like he knows his own mind. That is what he likes to think, at least, after realizing that every detail of her remains permanently printed into his being. Her every phrase and gesture is being copied by him, it reminds him that there's someone he spends time with enough to leave their prints on his character.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***

ㅤ–Bluey! the Border Collie said, his tail wagging up and down while his paw waved in the air towards the young Blue Heeler. Come on, there's nothing to be scared of, he continued.

ㅤThe girl looked around with a slight hesitance before she shaked her head. Her eyes were then fixed on the sky above them both, all alone, surrounded by the tall trees that make the whole scene appear darker than it should had been.

ㅤ–It's dark outside, Kanzie. Bluey breathed while her gaze kept jumping from a star to another as if she is trying to count them, even if that might not be true. They must be worried, we should head back.

ㅤThe young boy shaked his head, walking over to her and grabbing her by the hand, his eyebrows forming a small, yet soft, frown. He knows she is worried, even though she doesn't show it, or at least tries not to. She shouldn't be, she is safe with him, yet he can't voice this. Not because he doesn't want to, but because he knows that no matter what would happen, he will be right there, by his friend's side.

ㅤ–Don't be silly, Blu. Is the only thing the boy said before he pulled her by the hand, making her follow him deeper into the dark. The grip she has on his hand is tight, yet not uncomfortable for the Border Collie. Quite the opposite. He can feel her fear through the air that surrounds them, and it doesn't please him to know that she is scared, but his impatience prevents him from stopping until they step into the middle of the creek which is more of a field, a place where the trees are placed circulary and the moonlight pierces through, reflecting into the clear water of a pond.

ㅤ–Isn't the creek beautiful? He asked almost breathlessly before he let go of her hand, stepping forward which made the Blue Heeler squeak and run to his side. That until she stopped suddenly and looked to the side, her voice quiet and as breathless as his was when she spoke.

ㅤ–Mackenzie, look!

ㅤAt her words, the boy turned his head and leaned it to a side while his eyes followed to what she pointed at just a moment ago. It made her eyes sparkle, which almost had him chuckling, almost just because when he saw it, he was as astonished as she was.

ㅤ–Fireflies! They both exclamed in unison as their tails wagged excitedly. Mackenzie approached her, his eyes following the glowing insects that were floating around, or just resting on flowers nearby.

ㅤ–How lovely. Bluey spoke quietly, then turned her head slightly towards Mackenzie, even though her eyes remained on the lightning bugs. Did you know they are actually beetles?

ㅤThe question made the boy shake his head for a moment, a wide smile on his face. He then thought, turning to Bluey and talking louder this time, smiling confidently.

ㅤ–But did you know their eggs also glow?

ㅤ–WHAT!! Bluey said loudly, making the young boy let out a small "yeah" between laughs at the sight of her surprise.

ㅤThe creek went quiet for long minutes after their voices died, feeling more like hours unspoken. The two children were left staring at the fireflies that were filling the spot, the reflexion of their lights on water making the view seem ethereal almost. Everything was quiet, only the wind making the leaves that hang on the trees' branches rustle.

ㅤ–Shall we lay down for a bit? Bluey asked with a cracking voice, breaking the comforting silence that fell over the place as her eyes were finally fixed on something other than the glowing insects.

ㅤ–You go lay down, I must do something. The boy answered after a moment or two of thinking about her question.

ㅤAs Bluey lies onto the grass near the pond, looking at the stars that stain the night sky, Mackenzie's steps sound like he is all over the place, walking in circles, turning and swirling around. It made the young girl laugh, not bothering to look and see what is happening around her.

ㅤ–Kenzie! Why are you moving so much? It sounds like you are jogging.

ㅤMackenzie held his thoughts back at her comment, rolling his eyes, yet smiling even though she could not see it. Despite their constant little and childish arguments, he likes her presence. He always felt abandoned, or felt the need to be abandoned, but not by her. He knows she would never want him to be lost, that she would find him and bring him back, so they can squabble while at the end of the day, they will play together.

ㅤ–Finished! Mackenzie voiced loudly, also suddenly, making the girl jump to her feet instantly. She scratches her head and looks around for a second, then her eyes fall onto the pond, where..

ㅤ–A barky boat! She then speaks with excitement in her voice, pointing at it before kneeling against the grass, her chin resting on her paw as her tail wags in the same rhythm with Mackenzie's. They both play with the barky boat, passing it from one to the other over and over again.

ㅤ–Mackenzie, don't splash me! Bluey whined when he, intentionally or not (intentionally, definitely), splashed the girl while passing the small boat, then laughing. She then laughed too, dropping herself down onto the grass, on her back while her head tilted to a side. Do you think when we grow up we will still love each other?

ㅤ–Love each other? The Border Collie asked confused, slowly lying on his back as well besides the girl.

ㅤ–Yes! I do love you, you're my best friend, Kenzie.

ㅤ–Oh. Well, sure, i guess. He said as his little mind processed the conversation, staring at the starry sky. Maybe he didn't realize that his tail is wagging once again. Her best friend, he could get used to this.

ㅤ–Hooray. Bluey said quietly with a smile, her tail also moving around on its own without her even noticing it. After a small moment of silence, the girl jumps on her feet again, pulling Mackenzie.

ㅤ–Let's go back, they must be worried!
