ㅤIsn't it hard witnessing the one you just learnt to love slipping right through your fingers in one single moment, when your guard was down and your hopes were up?

ㅤRight when you fall and you are caught, they suddenly let go of you. Was the distance small? Perhaps. Did it hurt? Yes, it did.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***

ㅤIn the middle of the second day's activities, from a distace a group of people that was approacing the area owned by the camp could be spotted. It made some stop and others question this apparition, that until the guide stepped between all the teens, speaking with a smile and offering them all closure.

ㅤ–Today we are welcoming a new class that you will spend this week with, also 11th graders. You will surely get along well. The guide spoke as she observed how many wagging tails this new information provoked.

ㅤBluey, as well as the others, is pretty excited to make new friends and memories, almost jumping on her feet at the thought. Though, as the group finally stopped in front of them, the Heeler caught a glimpse of a familiar face among the unknown ones, and as she realized, she rushed towards the familiar face she had just seen, embracing them.

ㅤ–I never thought I'd see you very soon! the girl spoke, looking up at the black Labrador in front of her, whose tail was moving left and right.

ㅤ–Neither did I. Nice to see you again, Bluey. said Jean Luc, smiling down at the excited girl.

ㅤAt the same time, Rusty stopped instantly from running, right in front of the two, scratching the back of his head. He hadn't seen or heard any of this since he did not stop from his little game, so he was confused at the sight of a bunch of new people being there. As he scratched the back of his head, a force made his hand hit his head in the process, causing him to let out a small whine.

ㅤ–Mackenzie, be careful! the boy whined, looking over his shoulder at the Collie that just bumped into him during his chase.

ㅤ–You stopped in front of me! the boy protested almost immediately, yet he stopped, looking towards the newly joined lot of people. His expression turns as confused as Rusty's, changing then to a puzzled one when he sees Bluey and Jean Luc hugging each other. He asked. What's going on?

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***

ㅤAt first, nothing was wrong. The day went on normally and everyone was getting used to the new teens that joined their summer camp, but the more Mackenzie thought about it, the more his day was ruined. While he was always teamming with Bluey, even at school, Jean Luc's arrival made everything change almost inevitably. That being said, Bluey spent more of her time with the Labrador, she teammed with him. In other words, she ignored Mackenzie completely whenever he was approaching her and her friend.

ㅤAnd as you could already tell, it made the boy feel left out. Not only that, but forsaken, rejected even. In this case, he refused to take part of any other activity and retreat inside with the excuse of feeling sick. Just as he was eating alone in the building's dining room, someone walked in and sat besides the boy.

ㅤ–Mackenzie, are you feeling alright? the person spoke with worry in their voice, their hand resting on the boy's forearm.

ㅤ–Coco, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with the others? the Collie asked confused, forgetting about his faked sickness for a second and taking another bite of his food.

ㅤ–We are having a break. I came to check up on you.

ㅤUnsure of what to do next, either to tell her that he is still feeling a little ill or just to admit what is actually going on, he decides to stay silent for a few moments. Even if he was thinking that he is hiding his feelings well enough, he is aware of the fact that his friends know him well and could tell when something was off. All he could do was hope Coco won't realize it.

ㅤ–You seem sad. the Poodle said slightly quieter than before, her body relaxing which surprises her since she had no idea how tense she usually is when she is around him. The truth is, it's been a long while since she feels something for Mackenzie, yet she decided to keep it to herself for the sake of him and of their friendship. Not only that, but she always thought that they are not close enough for her to feel this way towards him.

ㅤ–It's nothing you should worry about, Coco. Just, Bluey. I didn't think that someone's arrival would make her oblivious towards me.

ㅤAt the confession of his true thoughts and feelings that seem to eat him alive, Coco lets out a small hum of understandment along with a nod of her head. Stopping herself from saying anything that would borther the boy further, she smiles and grabs his hand as she speaks.

ㅤ–I am here for you. We can spend time together instead and be a team this week!

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***

ㅤJust as Coco suggested, her and the Border Collie formed a team and took part at the rest of the activities of that day. It couldn't be denied, they made a pretty good team, yet for him something was clearly missing. It felt like an empty space that could not be filled with anything, not even with the things he likes most.

ㅤWhile for our dear Blue Heeler, the change of teams didn't bother her much. She enjoyed her time with her old friend that she reunited with after 10 years, more or less. In instance, she was really excited, yet after a little while when she realized Mackenzie's absence from her usual activities, her eagerness turned down visibly.

ㅤ–Everything alright, Bluey? Jean Luc asked, holding out his hand for the girl that was sitting down against the grass with her tail wrapped around her feet. The girl looked up and smiled, taking his hand as he helped her stand up.

ㅤ–Yes, everything is just fine.

Slightly shorter chapter this time, which i hope you won't truly mind. I have a lot of ideas for this book, but I feel at a loss of words. Enjoy.
