ㅤThis chapter of life is for those who dare to hope, for those who, despite the size of the change, do not fear to try and make things right, no matter if they succeed or not. That is how life goes, after all. You can't change what doesn't concern you, but the little while you have left, you got nothing to lose if you try.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***
ㅤAs soon as she gets home, she goes straight to her room and covers herself entirely with the blanket. She had never thought of losing someone so close to her in just a few hours from now. She didn't even have enough time to spend with him, and the thought that Jean Luc made her forget about Mackenzie only brings more guilt to the girl. Despite being able to see the Labrador after such a long time, the pain of losing someone after an even longer period of time spent together is unexplicable.
ㅤIt is not only him leaving that pains her this much, there is something else. Something that bothers her beyond words, as if she had missed an opportunity that was given only once in her lifetime.
ㅤ-Bluey, are you alright?
ㅤThe voice of her mum, Chilli, makes the girl jump and her tears stop for a moment. She lowers the blanket just enough for her face to be seen, sniffing as she does so.
ㅤ–Mum, Mackenzie is moving to New Zeeland. He is leaving tomorrow morning. Bluey said, looking up at her mother that was slowly sitting down, on the edge of the bed.
ㅤ–Is that so? You didn't know until the camp? Chilli asked, the only answer she gets from the Blue Heeler being a shake of her head. The woman sighs, rubbing her chin and, after a few moments of thinking, she speaks again with a small smile.
ㅤ–Why don't you get ready and get in the car? I will drive you to his house so you can say goodbye properly. How does that sound?
ㅤThe girl wipes her tears, her whole face lighting up as she jumps out of the bed. Through the slightly cracked door of the bedroom, Bandit barges in with his arms held up as he speaks.
ㅤ–Aye, hold on, mate. It is dark outside already, you can't just-
ㅤHe interrupted himself in the middle of his sentence when he noticed the death glare Chilli is giving him, to which he responds with an awkward smile, scratching the back of his head and retreating silently with no further protests against the idea suggested by her mother.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***
ㅤArriving at the boy's house, the two stand in the car in silence for a few long moments. Even though the lights in his house were all turned on, something was holding Bluey back from just going and knocking on his door. On the windows of the car were dripping down drops of rain while the sky was lighting up every now and then.
ㅤ–Don't hesitate, honey. Just go.
ㅤJust as Chilli finished her sentence, the Heeler was already opening the car's door and rushing to his front porch through the heavy rain. She stopped for a second, staring at the front door and at the "Border Collies" plate that was hanging on it. After a few moments, she finally knocks on the door and waits for someone to open it, even though she was praying Mackenzie will be the one who does it.
ㅤBetween muffled voices and sounds, she could finally hear the boy's voice as if he was close to the door. It made her heart jump from her chest and her legs become wobbly. Only now she realizes what truly bothered her, if not entirely, then at least slightly. So many thoughts and feelings left unspoken and such a short amount of time left until the two will be separated for God knows how long is what troubled her. She wished for a chance to express herself freely, for once in her life. To be honest with him and with herself, at least in the last few moments they will have together.
ㅤJust like she hoped for, the boy was the one who opened the door, the surprise visible on his face in that moment at the sight of her in his doorway. His heart was also doing little jumps into his chests, his paw propped now against the doorway as he speaks. The gesture of propping himself agaist it was not, by any meaning, to seem cool or just a habit, but to keep his balance on his feet.
ㅤ–What are you doing here this late, Blu?
ㅤIn that moment, the girl jumped into his arms and embraced him tightly, squeezing her eyes shut. This caught the Collie off guard, but he still rested his other paw on her back, patting it gently.
ㅤ–I don't want to let you go, not without saying at least a proper goodbye to you. she cried as she squeezed weakly his body into her arms, her face now buried into his chest. She hoped he couldn't hear how loudly her heart is beating into her chest and how she was shaking against him, but she is certain that he might feel it. She continued, looking up at him. As much as I don't want you to leave, I hope you at least won't forget me. I want you to always reserve a place for me, wherever you go.
ㅤ–How could I not? Of course I will, Blu, don't be silly now. he spoke almost breathlessly, yet softly, looking down at the girl. Their hearts were beating in unison, he could feel it too well. He knew it was pointless to tell her how he truly feels now that he is moving, he believes that it will only make her suffer instead of comforting her, yet he does it.
ㅤ–You don't understand it. You hold the dearest place into my heart and you always will. My childhood and everything after until this very moment is mostly you. It's all right, I didn't understand it either at first, but now I know that I like you genuinely.
ㅤ–How much? she asked quietly, her words being followed by a small sniff while her fur soaking his as well as she keeps on hugging him.
ㅤ–This much. he answered her quietly, opening his arms as wide as he could.
ㅤ–And what will we do? You still have to go, don't you? I don't want you to go!
ㅤ–I am sorry, Bluey, I have to. But no matter what happens, the moments of my life you were part of will always be my favorite. he said, finally wrapping his arms around the girl and hugging her back, his chin resting against his shoulder as he talks once again. Just because I'm leaving, it doesn't mean I want to..
ㅤShe then finally steps back, wiping her cheeks with her palms, yet looking down at the ground. Before saying anything else, she grabs a hold of his hand and squeezes it.
ㅤ–I hope that in the end we will get to meet again. To be just you and me.
ㅤ–I hope so, too.
