ㅤAs someone once said, "if you want the rainbow, you have to put up with the rain". Or so i've heard. Either way, the rain washes the thoughts and fears for some, for others it might bring fear and disorientation. How about both?

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***

ㅤJust as Bluey and Mackenzie were about to approach their class and the guide, the boy looked up with a confused look on his face before he looked at the girl.

ㅤ-Was that a raindrop? he asked quietly, taking one small step forward then stopping again. Bluey looked at him and stayed still for a moment, not feeling anything. Her brows formed a soft frown, shaking her head, yet when she opened her mouth to tell him that it was not a raindrop, she finally feels it too. Not just one, many.

ㅤThe ground being warm while the rain was cold as ice on their skins, the fog wasted no time to appear, making the girl turn around quickly and take a few quick steps forward.

ㅤ-Mackenzie, we have to go, now. We won't be able to see them anymore. the Heeler said, while the boy looked through his bag, which made Bluey frown and pull him by his hand. Come on!

ㅤ-Ah, Bluey! I was looking for an umbrella. Calm down, we won't lose them. he said with a sigh, feeling stressed by her fear. He wants her to be braver than this, her worries make his chest tighten slightly. He is about to say something else, when he realized that she rushed forward, leaving him behind in the pouring rain.

ㅤShe looks around disorientated, trying to see something through the thick fog that fell over the whole forest. She can't even see the path well enough. The thought of being there, all alone is frightening for her, that's why she looks around constantly, trying to spot Mackenzie to no avail.

ㅤ-Mackenzie, can you hear me? the girl shouted, taking a few steps backwards. Her whole body is shaking, making her voice shaky as well when she speaks, even a bit desperate. Please, I am sorry I left you behind, I was trying to see if I could spot them.

ㅤDespite her calls for him, she doesn't hear a single thing from him or a sign that he is close to her. She is holding her tears back by now, walking backwards and looking in all directions, even though she can barely see though the fog and her tears. Taking one more step, she trips over a root, falling on her back into a puddle of mud. As soon as this happens, she sits up and covers her face with her hands, crying silently.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***

ㅤShe is not sure how long it has been since she was there, into the rain, just standing still and trying to calm down, yet soon enough, she could hear a faint voice into the distance, which made her finally look up and try to shout again for her friend, even though her voice was coming out barely above a whisper.

ㅤ-Mackenzie?

ㅤJust a few more moments that feel like an eternity passed before a silhouette could be seen through the fog that is beginning to slowly dissipate, and the moment she could see it, she feels herself being lifted up from the ground by an entirely wet Mackenzie that is panting and shaking slightly, not as bad as her though. Why not as bad, you may ask? He was not shaking because he was cold, unlike Bluey, but because he panicked, afraid that he won't be able to find her in these circumstances.

ㅤ-Thank Goodness, Bluey. Don't ever do this again to me again, you'll stay right here. he says as he grabs her hand tightly, pulling her towards him before he starts walking.

ㅤThe girl looks up at him for a second before she hugs his arm tightly, nodding and wipping her cheeks. She is finally able to breathe properly since they were separated.

ㅤ-Do you know where we are going, Mackenzie? she asked quietly, letting go of his arm, yet not of his hand. She holds it as if her life depends on it and she would not dare to let go of it until they are both safe and warm. She then continues, even quieter than the first time. Will we ever find them?

ㅤ-Don't worry, Blu, we'll find them. Just stay by my side. he said, his finger pointing down. Now that the fog is almost gone, they could see the path well enough to follow it, even if it is still raining heavily.

ㅤThe moment they step near the cottage they were meant to arrive at, Chloe runs outside, almost in tears and hugs Bluey tightly while Calypso and the others, along with the guide, were waiting for them on the porch.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***

ㅤSoon enough, the two are seated in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea in their hands and sharing a blanket that was wrapped around their shoulders in order to warm themselved up for a little until the rain stops. Mackenzie is just staring at the fire while Bluey is looking around the small living room, gathering her thoughts so she can apologize to him for what she did. When she finally opens her mouth to speak, Mackenzie does it first.

ㅤ-You scared me, Bluey, but everything is all right now. As long as you are by my side, you will be safe. I promise.

ㅤ-I promise to be always by your side. she speaks, more to herself than to him, which makes him look at her with a puzzled expression on his face.

ㅤ-What was that, Blu?

ㅤ-Nothing. Just, thank you.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ***

ㅤLater that day, when the dawn was approaching quickly and the rain was already over for a while now, they all gathered and set up the grand fire with logs serving as chairs for the teens. While everyone was already seated around the fire, the Border Collie was missing in action, which made Bluey slightly confused. She saw him walk outside, yet he was nowhere to be seen for some reasons.

ㅤShe waited and waited until she finally stood up and began to look for him starting from inside, then outside. When she was about to give up, she hears a small cracking sound that made her turn around and approach the river that was fairly close to the cottage where she finally spotted Mackenzie. He was sitting with his knees up to his chest, throwing little rocks into the river.

ㅤ-Kenzie, what are you doing here? Why don't you come to the camp fire? the girl questioned, slowly sitting down next to him against the grass that was still slightly wet from the rain.

ㅤ-I will come too in a bit, don't let it concern you.

ㅤ-It does concern me, I can't see you like this. she answered as soon as he finished his words, surprising him slightly and making him straighten his posture against the tree while he looked at her. She continued, taking the rock he was holding into his hand and playing with it between her fingers. I wish I could show you how bright my world is and how happy I am when you are here.

ㅤShe then took a deep breath, her eyes remaining fixed on the river's water that reflects both of them while her hand reached out, grabbing his and giving it a reassuring squeeze.

ㅤ-I know that you can handle whatever is bothering you, but for now we just need you there.

ㅤFor Bluey, this is just reassuring a friend, making sure that they are doing fine, but for Mackenzie, this whole day was a comprehension. The birds they took pictures of, the fact that he felt so afraid when he couldn't find her anymore and now, when he hears those words leave her mouth, he feels dizzy, like he was hit by a moving truck and left in the middle of the road, the only comfort being the Sun above him.

ㅤHe always wondered, is this what love feels like? And if it is, is she the Sun that comforts his bleeding wounds?
