The next morning, all students were reported to meet outside the school. Sophia thought that what happened last night was all a dream. That she dreamt she and Adrien flew over the island on a winged unicorn. The leaves still stuck to her hair that morning was evidence that it was no dream. Her face turned bright red. That meant that everything was really did happen. Her nearly falling off Spirit's back and Adrien catching her. It was like something straight out of a rom-com.
Sophia shook her head. This wasn't some movie, this was real life. Adrien probably didn't think much of it so neither should she. Besides, she wasn't here to find a boyfriend. Adrien was just a friend. Probably the only friend she didn't mind talking to. Ava was nice, and Marinette seemed alright, a little on the shy side but that only meant she wouldn't be nearly as 'much' as Ava. Sophia could see herself having at least casual conversations with Marinette, at least. But Adrien, at least with him she could talk about the loss of her father and feel legitimately seen. Was this how it felt to connect with someone?
Sophia pushed all those thought aside. She was here to ride. After breakfast she met up with the rest of her dorm mates outside. The air was clear and cool like an autumn breeze and the sun was the ideal temperature, never too hot. She wondered if the weather on the island worked the same way as in the non-magical world. Which time zone were they in, she wondered.
Maybe it was best not to overthink it. It was magic, simple as that. If unciorn's could exits why not a pocket dimension?
Gabriel Agreste, once again riding his unicorn, carried himself with a regal dignity. Sophia felt as if he could see straight through her and made a mental note not to get on his bad side. She felt a sudden warmth in her chest when she noticed Adrien. His thumb wrapped around Spirit's reigns and his fingers wiggled in a small and subtle greet. Sophia found it kind of adorable how he would find any means to say hello. Kids back home were rarely this nice to her, and if they were she could tell it was more out of pity. Back home, almost everybody knew about her father and took it upon themselves to 'help' her. But Sophia wasn't one for pity. At least when Adrien emphasized with her father's loss it came from a place of sincerity and not remorse.
Sophia gave him a small wave, and was relieved Chloe didn't notice. She couldn't say the same thing about Felix, however.
"Hey, Sophia." Marinette waved. Sophia found herself waving back. With a spry in her step, Marinette walked on over with Alya and Nino behind her.
"Hey, Marinette."
"Mind if we stick with you guys?" Alya asked. Sophia had almost forgotten that she was with her dorm mates. Ava was more than happy to have new friends tag along.
"Sure! Where's Chloe."
"We ditched her at breakfast." Nino said, pointing over his shoulder with his thumb. "Just cause we gotta live with her doesn't mean we have to hang out outside the dorm, right?"
Sophia smiled. She liked this guy's reasoning. She make a mental note to apply that when it came to Valentina. Sophia flinched when the headmaster spoke.
"Welcome students, to Wonderwood Forest. It is here where the unicorns of this island roam. And today, you will discover if one of those unicorns is destined to be yours."
The kwamis swarmed around the students, one landed on Isabel's finger, a cute little monkey kwami. Layla cautious greeted her kwami, a cute little mouse who was anything but meek, booping Layla affectionately on the nose.
The black cat kwami appeared beside Sophia. "Sup, kid."
Ms. Primrose spoke next. She was definitely more pleasing to listen to that Gabriel. At least she had actual emotion in her voice. "If you find the unicorn that is your destined match the kwami will glow."
