|Chapter Five|

I'm in my room watching Roly, eating a pint of ice cream while curled up in my blankets. I woke up depressed and it has followed me into the early afternoon, so I'm having a me day.

I sigh softly as I shove the last bite of ice cream into my mouth, trying to ignore the tears streaming down my cheeks. I don't know why I'm sad, I just am, and that almost makes it worse. I wipe my tears and set the empty pint on my nightstand, before putting my laptop down so I can stand up. I grab the empty pint and my spoon and shuffle slowly to the kitchen, tossing the pint away and putting the spoon in the sink. I grab myself a glass of cold ice water, and take a big drink to calm myself down. I stare down at the glass, feeling the condensation from the ice melting drip past my fingertips.

"How are you doing?" James' voice startles me, and he laughs softly as he ruffles my hair gently. "Everything ok? This is the first time I've seen you all day." I stare up at him, unsure of what to say. Should I be honest? Or just tell him I'm fine.. I shrug "I'm ok, just tired." He tilts his head to the side to get a better look at my face "You know you can talk to me." He smiles softly, and it makes my chest tighten. "I'm ok, really. I'm just tired." I smile softly, trying to reassure him. He hums softly "Ok. Well, do you want to watch more Love Island with me?" The offer seems nice, and I know it'd make me feel better, but all I want to do right now is isolate.

I shake my head "I'm gonna lay back down, maybe later." I smile softly, and shuffle back to my room. As I sit back down on my bed and bring my laptop onto my lap, I can't help but overthink my interaction with James. I hope he doesn't think I'm mad at him.. I tap my foot anxiously, and chew on my fingernails as I go back to scrolling through YouTube.

A few hours later and I hear a soft knock on my door, so I pause my video. James opens the door slowly, and enters with a soft smile. "Hey, I just wanted to check in on you. Make sure you're doing ok." He leans on the doorframe with his hands in his pockets. I pause for a moment, thinking about my response as I stare down at my paused YouTube video. I shrug "I don't know.." James furrows his brows in confusion "You don't know?" I nod, bringing my knees to my chest. He shuffles over to me, before sitting down beside me on my bed. He wraps his arm around my shoulder, and pulls me to his side. "It's ok, we all have our hard days."

He drags his hand up and down my arm gently, and I close my eyes as I sink into his touch. "You'll be ok though, you'll get through it." I hug my knees tightly to my chest, and bury my face in my arms to muffle my cries. James holds me tightly, and gently runs his fingers through my hair. "I don't even know why I'm crying." I laugh softly through my tears, and wipe my eyes. "That's ok too, you don't need a reason to be sad." James laughs softly, ruffling my hair gently. I wipe my tears again "I'm sorry I'm such a mess." I smile sadly. He nudges me "Don't say that. You're not a mess, and you don't have to apologize either."

We sit in silence for a bit, sat next to each other with me leaning on him. James finally breaks the silence "Do you want to watch Love Island now?" James laughs softly, and I can't help but laugh with him. I nod softly, and James gets up before pulling me with him to the living room. We sit down together, and James pulls me close to him. Otto jumps up onto the couch, and curls up in my lap. I drag my fingers through Otto's fur, and he immediately starts purring. I lean against James, as I continue to pet Otto. "Thank you.." I lean my head on James' shoulder, and he leans his head on mine "You don't need to thank me, this is what friends are for."

I wrap my arm around his, and hug his arm tightly against my chest. "I'm glad I met you." James hums softly "Me too. You're my best friend y/n, and you mean the world to me." I hug his arm tighter "And you mean the world to me."
