Stella sat on the couch staring at a blank piece of paper, trying hard to concentrate, but her mind kept running off to yesterday's run-in with Gabby. Gabby returned home yesterday and came by the firehouse to talk to the chief. Stella was there filing some paperwork. It was the first time the two interacted since Stella came back almost five months ago. She looks over at Ryan, who was in his swing, giggling; she smiles as she hears the front door open.
"Morning," Kelly said as he tossed his bag down and leaned over the back of the couch to kiss his girl.
"Morning." She replied after the kiss broke. "Good shift?"
"Yeah, pretty much." He walks over and bends down to kiss Ryan's cheek. "Was you a good boy for Mama last night?"
"He's always a good boy." Stella answered. "He's a Mama's boy."
Kelly stood up and walked over to her. "I can't blame him; his mama is kind of hot."
"Kind of?" She raised her eyebrow playfully.
He hovers over her. "Very hot, extremely sexy." He smirks before kissing her. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing." She replied, holding the notepad to her chest.
Kelly eyed her suspiciously. "You're working on your vows."
"No, I'm not; I'm making a grocery list."
"Yes, you are." He takes the notepad from her. "It's blank."
"I just started it."
"Hmm.. sure." He stands up. "Your vows are done, right?"
"Are yours?" She challenged back instead of answering him.
"Yep." He stated proudly.
Her eyes widen. "Seriously? You wrote your vows already?" She couldn't believe it; it's been a month since they decided to get married; they were supposed to get married at the courthouse four days later after they decided to get married. But Shay begged them not to do it; she said they deserve to have a wedding—a real wedding with their family and friends—after everything they've been through. At first Kelly wasn't on board, but when Stella told him you only get married once, and she wanted it to be like she dreamed it would have been, he caved in.
"Yes, I wrote my vows nine years ago."
"Really?" That melted her heart.
"Yeah, I knew exactly what I wanted to say to you, so I wrote it down and put it in my Stella box."
Her eyes tear up. "You kept them all this time?"
"Yeah, everything I wrote back then is exactly how I feel today. I tweaked it a little a few days ago, and of course I kept it. It was my way of telling myself you were coming back to me."
She sighed. "You really never gave up on me or us, did you?"
"No, you don't give up on people you love, Stella; even on my darkest days, I believed someday you were going to come back to me. We belong together; it was all a part of God's timing."
She stands up and walks over to him. "I love you, and I can't wait to be your wife." She wraps her arms around his neck.
"One week till forever." He wrapped her in his arms. "We're going to have a great life together, I promise."
"I know we are." She kisses him softly.
"Is this what I'm going to walk into every time I come to visit?" Shay said, walking into the living room.
"Quit visiting." Kelly told her as Stella hit his stomach.
"You would be lost without my visits." She patted his back. "Plus, it's my job to keep you in line, Severide."
