Mariah had still been collecting her thoughts when shit went to hell. After Falren's most recent training session, she and Elijah had begun discussing what happened while Emily leaned against her side. They had to plan out their next moves, Mariah wished that they could stay at Elijah's house forever but realistically her kids would need to go back to school and Nick would have to go back to his family. Before they could do that they had to find a way to get rid of the demon chasing them.
"Mariah we should head back to wherever you found the kid. We might find some clues there, maybe we can find someone who knows how to get rid of it." Elijah's face showed no sign of what he was thinking, he was dead serious and Mariah couldn't find any fault in his idea. It sounded like the best bet.
"You're right. We should leave as soon as possible, let's move the kid's overnight bags into your car, and make one for Falren." Elijah nodded in agreement to her statement
"I'll grab clothes and things from Falren's room and meet you out there." With that, he stood from his chair and headed out of the room. Mariah nudged her daughter, she would need to get Emily some serious therapy after this. Scratch that everyone would need therapy after this was all over.
"Emi I need you to come help me move our stuff into Elijah's car, okay baby?" She watched as her daughter refocused on the world before she looked up at Mariah and gave her a small smile. Emily stood up with Mariah and the two headed outside the house and to her car in the driveway. After the divorce from her husband Mariah had made sure both her children had fully prepared overnight bags in her car. Just in case he ever came back, she didn't want to get involved with any of the shit he had gotten himself into. As she grabbed the bags out of her car she saw it before she heard it, something running towards the house too fast for her to make it out before it crashed into a window and she heard the screeching.
============
Elijah knew something was wrong. It would be hard not to know when you hear a window break before your ears are burst by inhumane screaming.
It didn't take him long to put together a theory of what was going on. The demon that had been chasing Mariah and the kids had found them and was about to start tearing through his house, and the people in it. Elijah didn't waste any more time as he zipped up the backpack he had just finished packing for Falren and ran out of the room, knocking on Nick's door before slamming it open.
"Kid, we have to go! That thing is here! I'm going to go find Falren and Alex, you get to my car and fill Mariah in!" He then ran down the stairs without looking back. He trusted that Nick could get himself out of the house uninjured.
As he came to the bottom of the stairs he turned left and was about to begin running down the hall towards Alex's room before he collided with the small form of Falren and shortly after, Alex.
"Elijah! Where's mom? We have to go! That fucking demon found us again! It's chasing us!" The two teenagers had a look of unbridled fear on their faces as Alex shouted at him.
"I know! Don't worry, your mom, Emily, and Nick are all outside already! All that's left is us three!!" With those words, he grabbed the teens and the three began booking it for the front door. Hopefully, Mariah had gotten everything together and was ready to leave already. They couldn't afford to waste any time. Elijah could hear the demon crashing through walls and smashing items in its pursuit of them. He took twists and turns throughout the house he had come to know so well, the two teens following closely behind him. With one last turn, Elijah could see the front door, the light from his headlights being distorted through the fogged glass on the door. Wasting no time he slammed the door open, spending a few precious seconds taking in the situation. Mariah sat in the driver's seat of his jeep with Alex and Emily sitting in the backseat. Mariah urgently waved the three of them to the car and together they clambered in before closing the doors.
