The rain fell intensely outside, hitting the windows with a constant sound that filled the house with a melancholic atmosphere. Bay was in his room, trying to focus on a book, but his mind couldn't stop thinking about Bucky, who was restless on this stormy night. He knew his son often had trouble sleeping during storms, and the silence from the other side of the hallway only increased his concern.
He closed the book with a sigh and decided to check on Bucky. When he opened the boy’s door, he found him sitting on the bed, with wide eyes filled with anxiety. He was clutching his teddy bear tightly, seeking comfort.
"Bucky, are you okay?" Bay asked softly, walking over to the bed and sitting beside him.
"I can't sleep, mommy," Bucky responded with a trembling voice. "The rain is too loud, and it scares me."
Bay's heart ached hearing his son call him 'mommy,' a habit Bucky had never lost, despite knowing that Bay was a man. The nickname always made him feel a mix of emotions: affection and a pang of sadness for what his life with Pur had become.
"Come here, my love," Bay said, pulling Bucky into his arms. "The rain may seem scary, but I'm here with you. There's nothing to fear."
Bucky nestled against Bay's chest, closing his eyes as he tried to calm down. Bay began to hum a soft melody, the same one he had sung to Bucky since he was a baby. Little by little, the boy started to relax, though he still seemed uneasy.
"Do you want me to stay with you here in your room?" Bay asked after a while, sensing that Bucky wasn't entirely at ease yet.
Bucky nodded without saying a word, holding his teddy bear even tighter. Bay smiled tenderly, adjusting the pillows to lie down next to his son. The sound of the rain outside continued, but now, with Bucky in his arms, it seemed less threatening.
As the minutes passed, Bay felt Bucky's body completely relax, and soon the boy was fast asleep, his face peaceful. Bay watched him for a moment, feeling a wave of love and protection. He knew life was complicated, and things between him and Pur even more so, but nothing in the world was more important than Bucky's well-being.
Resting his head on the pillow, Bay closed his eyes, finally feeling the weight of the night settle over him. In that moment, amid the storm outside and the warm refuge of the room, everything seemed at peace.
And so, with Bucky safe in his arms, Bay also drifted off to sleep, lulled by the sweet serenity of being next to his son.
Pur arrived home exhausted after a long day at work. All he wanted was to find Bay in the living room, as usual, waiting for him with a welcoming smile. However, when he opened the living room door, he was met with silence and darkness, which immediately worried him; it was rare not to find Bay there.
“Bay?” he called, but received no answer.
Leaving his briefcase on the couch, Pur started looking for Bay throughout the house. The kitchen was empty, as was the office and the guest room. As he climbed the stairs, a slight unease began to grow in his chest. Finally, he opened the door to Bucky's room, the last possibility.
