As Heeseung and Jay made their way out of the library, their arms full of textbooks, someone collided harshly into Heeseung, nearly knocking the books from his grasp.

Heeseung took a step back, the sudden impact jarring him from his thoughts.

He looked up, his eyes narrowing when he saw who it was.
Jake.

Jake barely glanced at him, his blonde hair a blur as he muttered a quick, "Sorry," before sprinting off in the opposite direction.

Heeseung’s jaw clenched as he watched Jake disappear deeper into the back of the library, toward the far corner where he had just seen Sunghoon sitting alone.

Jake was Sunghoon’s roommate.

An alpha, living in close quarters with an omega.

The very idea of it grated at Heeseung.

Sure, there were rules.

Strict ones, about masking their scents and taking pills to suppress heats and ruts, but that didn’t change the fact that alphas and omegas weren’t meant to share such close spaces.

It didn’t sit well with him, even though he knew the academy wouldn’t allow anything dangerous to happen.

But still. It bothered him.

His fingers flexed around the books he was holding as he felt a surge of irritation flare up inside him, an all too familiar heat prickling just beneath his skin.

The alpha in him stirred, bristling at the encounter.

He knew he was getting angry too quickly, but he couldn’t help it.

The image of Jake running toward Sunghoon in that secluded corner sent his mind racing with scenarios he didn’t like.

Heeseung turned to Jay, pushing the stack of books into his arms without a word of explanation.

“Take these back to the room.”
He said.

Jay, who had been in the middle of making a sarcastic remark about the books being too heavy, paused and looked at him with raised eyebrows.

Heeseung’s expression told him not to ask questions, so he simply nodded and took the books, shifting them in his arms.

“Sure, no problem.”
Jay said, glancing toward the back of the library where Jake had run off but saying nothing more.

He knew better than to question Heeseung when he was like this.

Heeseung gave a brief nod and watched as Jay turned to leave, disappearing down the hall.

The moment Jay was out of sight, Heeseung pivoted on his heel and quietly made his way toward the back of the library, where Sunghoon and Jake had gone.
