Author's Note:
HI GUYS! So I'm a new fan of Attack on Titan as I had just finished the show a few days ago(as of the release of this one-shot) and I REALLY fell in love with Levi and Hanji, especially them as a ship. So much so that I just knew I was gonna have to write something involving these two. I don't have a release schedule for this but I plan on updating it semi-regularly. Also, I haven't written anything in almost a year as I had kinda "retired" if you want to call it that so this might not be perfect. Please don't be crazy harsh with any criticisms as it might take me a while to get back into the swing of things. Oh and I'm not exactly the most well-versed in the lore of AOT. I understand most of it but I'm sure there are some things that flew over my head so if I get something wrong, please politely correct me. One last thing, and this is totally optional. I'm accepting prompts for future one-shots! If you have an idea for a one-shot for me that you wish to share, please by all means submit them and I'll take a gander at it. If I like it enough, I'll gladly tag you in the one-shot when it's finished and published! With all of that being said, let's get started!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prompt: Levi and Hanji sit down and discuss Erwin's passing along with Levi's decision to save Armin's life instead. While Hanji has tons of questions, Levi's reluctant to answer any of them. Can she break down the barriers he has put up in his head? Can she crack the armor of Humanity's Greatest Soldier?
It was past midnight and everyone had turned in for the night as it had been a long and eventful day. Well everyone other than Captain Levi Ackerman and Commander Hanji Zoë. "Where were they?", you might be thinking. Currently, the two of them sat at a table with a lone candle illuminating the room. Levi had his arms crossed, eyes directed at the surface of the table as Hange sat in silence across from him. She had so many thoughts...so many questions needing answers. Levi's eyes finally rose to meet Hanji's face, her now missing eye being a grim reminder that yet another ally...no...another friend was almost lost today. He winced quietly at the mere thought of losing her as well. After quickly regaining his composure, he stared directly into Hange's singular eye.
"You look like you've got something to say." Levi piped in, breaking the silence between them which shook Hanji free of her thoughts, if only for a moment. Hanji stared at the man across from her, not sure where to even begin. She removed her glasses and sat them down on the table in front of her before sighing loudly.
"Oh Levi, I don't even know where to begin. The scout regiment took a heavy hit with the casualties we suffered, that and we now have the powers of the Colossal Titan in our hands. Still, there's one thing that confuses me..." Hanji's voice trailed off, unsure of whether or not to confess the thing that was resting at the top of her mind. Levi sat and waited for her to continue speaking which took Hanji several seconds longer than he would have liked.
"Alright four eyes, you gonna come out and say it?" He asked as Hanji flinched due to his tone of voice. Sure, Levi was oftentimes rude or borderline mean but given what's happened today, it was somewhat justified in her eyes.
"Armin Arlelt...how did you choose to inject him with that serum over Erwin? I know you said that it was time to let Erwin rest away from this hell but what if we'll need him later? What if we'll need his guidance? His leadership? His experience?" Hanji replied, feeling mildly guilty due to her question. Armin is a good kid who has an excellent mind sure, but Erwin was the symbol for humanity for years and now he was gone for the sake of a kid. Hanji wasn't heartless. She knew the kid was special as Mikasa pointed out to her, and maybe one day Armin will be just as helpful as Erwin, but who knows if they even have that kind of time anymore?
