Prompt: Former Section Commander Hanji Zoë met her unfortunate end thanks to an army of wall titans, or so was to be believed. However, when Eren Yeager pulls Hanji directly into the paths for a conversation, another outcome is presented.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It had only been mere minutes since Hanji was reunited with her fellow fallen Survey Corps members. She sat on the ground and stared up at the flying boat, smiling as she felt truly content with where her life ended at. To give her life for the people she loved was the way she always envisioned her end. Then...images of Levi began to flash in her mind and that smile on her face began to fade. In the last year, she and Levi had grown significantly closer. The loss of Commander Erwin had taken a heavy toll on the both of them, but that loss only made them seek each other out for comfort whenever they were in private. They weren't an item. Hanji knew Levi would never want something like that with a messy loudmouth freak like her. Still, the thought alone of the two of them hanging up their boots and living far away from civilization was enough to make her break. Her head began to hang low as emotions began to flare up within her, closing her eye to contain the tears welling up within them. It wasn't to be...now that she was gone.
Erwin noticed her troubled state and was immediately on cheering up duty. "What's wrong Hanji?"
Hanji removed her glasses before looking up at Erwin. She couldn't even respond truthfully, even to someone who has aided humanity to the extent that he had when his heart was still beating. Still, an ally sat before showing great signs of anguish and given their history, he wasn't going to let that slide. "Your tears are a result of your thoughts of Captain Levi. Would I be correct in my assessment?"
Hanji sat there, stunned due to Erwin's expert evaluation of her predicament. "You know?"
A smile formed on Erwin's face. "Please. It isn't like you were trying to hide your infatuation with him. From the moment you first laid eyes on him, you seemed to have carried a deep level of interest in him. He's a bit reserved when it comes to visual cues of his true feelings but make no mistake about it. He cared about you too."
Hanji's frowned only deepened after hearing those words leave the mouth of her former Commander. She pulled her knees close to her chest and buried her head into her arms as they sat across her kneecaps. "I cared about that short asshole...so much. Now, I've given up my life so that everyone could survive. So why do I feel so guilty? Why does my heart hurt so much despite the fact that the one I love is still drawing breath?"
Erwin's thick eyebrows furrowed as a smirk crept along his face. "The one you love. Don't you mean the ones you love?"
Shit...
Hanji wanted to die a second time due to her embarrassing accidental confession. A blush crept along her cheeks to which she quickly tried to hide. "Erwin, do you think Levi would've-" Hanji opened her eyes mid-sentence and looked around to find herself in a completely different space. She felt an uneasy weight of nothingness around her, as if existence itself was non-existent. She stared up above to see if the flying boat was still visible but alas, it too was gone. Instead, above her was what she could only describe as the most beautiful aurora covered what would be the sky. She noticed trails of light all traveling towards a certain direction, and as she turned around to see exactly where they were converging, she could see a figure in the distance. She couldn't make out who or what it was from this distance, so she decided to close the distance between herself and that figure. Her boots collided with the white soil beneath her as she walked closer to the figure.
She began to hear a strange noise behind her, causing her to stop dead in her tracks. She swiftly turned around and instinctively entered a defensive stance but gasped as soon as she saw the man standing in front of her. There stood Eren Yeager, the man responsible for the pain and suffering the world was currently experiencing. "You...you've got a lot of nerve showing your face around me again after what you've done, Eren."
