I was seated in front of the mirror. My make up artists doing my hair that was half done.
My make up was completed and I was already wearing my wedding attire..
I was excited. So excited that it hurt me. My heart clenching with the thought of leaving the house I've been staying in all of my life.To be away from my mumma, papa and Bhai.. I clutched my dupatta. And sighed softly.
"Areh jaldi karo, sab mehman aa gaye hai!" Smita bua sneered at my makeup artists. She is my papa's older sister who came today. She's toxic and a bit old fashioned just like her attire.
(Areh be fast, all the guests have arrived!)
She is the Aunty we called 'chugly aunty'. Always judges people even pointing out their insecurities. Avantika was standing next to me, another artist was doing her makeup when She said, "Ye kon hai?"
(Who's she?)
She directed the question towards me so I answered.."My best friend, Avantika"
"Badi pyaari dikhti hai.." she smiled dramatically..
(She looks very pretty)
"Thank you aunty ji" Avantika smiled a bit. She was weirded out by her, but kept the polite tone and facade.
"Oh.. beta Shreya, Tu jaldi ready hoke bahar aaja.. mein teri behen Reshmi ko bhi bhej ti hu. Sabke saath rahiyo.. akeli maat ghumna. Bahar jane ke baad Ek jaga baithe rehna Aaj aur mehmaano ko greet karna, samjhe?"
(Oh, Shreya, You come out after getting ready, I'll send your cousin Reshmi. Stay with everyone. Don't wander alone. When you'll go out stay seated in one place and greet the guests, understood?)
This buddhi aurat.. I don't know why she's giving me unwanted advise but to not to push this further I just nodded. I saw Avantika rolling her eyes looking away from Bua ji.
I sat on my throne that was arranged for me. I sat there adorned in a rich maroon lehenga that flowed like liquid ilk. The deep hue of the lehenga symbolized my tradition and passion. The lehenga was custom made just for me. It's fabric Intricately embroidered with golden zari work, shimmering like stars against the night sky.
My dupatta, draped over my head, was a very delicate vall of translucent maroon, edged with fine gold detailing. The lehenga was studded with tiny pearls and crystals, catching the light with each subtle movement. I was covered with gold, head to toe. I wore heavy ornate jewelry, a choker necklace, matching jhumkas, and a maangtika, enhancing my royal attire.
I greeted the guests who came and congratulated me and handed me gifts. Meanwhile Avantika was helping me with all those gifts. But she left a while ago somewhere.
I looked around trying to find her. My eyes wandered around the place, searching for her.
And there she was, in front of the momo stall eating momos. She took a plate of momo and walked towards me. she held the spoon in front of my mouth. "Areh idiot! I'm fasting!" I grumbled.
She widened her eyes remembering and nodded.
"Shree, tera pati aa gaya."
(Shree, your husband has arrived)
"manna hoga, Rajvansh hai.. Raja ka vangsh..."
(We have to admit, he's Rajvansh. Descendant of the king)
"Dekh ke hi lag raha tha" my aunts came to me and started teasing me, more like annoying me.
(He was looking like it.)
I looked at Avantika who was looking around searching for something or, someone? Maybe she really in love with Reyaansh..
I looked at Avantika who was looking around searching for something or, someone? Maybe she really got a crush on Reyaansh. I should set her up with him or something, so we can stay together.
I chuckled at my own thoughts.
The relatives from his family came towards my seat to see the new bride. I stood there my heart throbbing in my chest. I couldn't believe I am gonna be married in just few hours. I was excited but nervous as well.. I heard from Avantika that they are trying to steal his shoes and laughed.
"Pure 1 lakh lungi.. agar ladka hoti to tujhe to mein hi shadi karti." She said dramatically.
(I will take full 1 lakhs. If I was a guy I would have married you instead of him)
"areh ha baba" I looked at her in disbelief.
