A NORMAL DAY

Alex Carter woke up to the sound of his alarm clock
buzzing insistently. He groaned, reaching out to silence it
before sitting up and rubbing his eyes. It was just another
Tuesday, but for Alex, every day felt the same. He got out
of bed and shuffled to the kitchen, where he made himself
a quick breakfast—toast and coffee, the usual.

After eating, Alex grabbed his backpack and left his
apartment. The streets of New York were already alive with
the hustle and bustle of the morning rush. He walked the
familiar path to the corner café, where he ordered his
usual black coffee. The barista, Jane, greeted him with a
friendly smile.

"Morning, Alex. The usual?"
"Yeah, thanks, Jane," he replied with a nod. As he waited
for his coffee, he glanced around the café, noticing the
same regulars in their usual spots. It was comforting in its
predictability.

With coffee in hand, Alex made his way to his office
building. He worked at a tech company, where he spent
his days writing code for various software projects. His
cubicle was small and cluttered with notes and gadgets.
Alex liked to keep busy, immersing himself in his work to
pass the time.

Despite his routine, Alex had always been curious about
science and the mysteries of the universe. As a child, he
would spend hours reading about space, time, and the
laws of physics. This curiosity never faded, even if his job
was more practical than theoretical.
In his spare moments, he would often find himself
pondering big questions about the nature of time, the
possibility of other dimensions, and what lay beyond the
stars.

On his lunch break, Alex would usually sit in the park
across the street from his office. Today was no different.
He found a quiet bench under a tree and pulled out his
tablet to read. He was currently engrossed in a book about
the latest theories in quantum mechanics. Though the
subject was complex, he found it fascinating.
His thoughts were interrupted by a text from Emma.

"How's your day going?" she asked.
"Same old, same old,
" he replied with a smiley face.
"Reading about quantum mechanics in the park. You?"
"Working on a new exhibit about ancient Egypt"                  she texted back. "Can't wait to show you!"

Alex's thoughts drifted back to the old journal they had
found weeks ago. Emma had been spending a lot of time
with it, trying to understand its cryptic notes and sketches.
He admired her passion and often wondered if there was
more to the journal than met the eye.

Could it really be about a time machine? The idea seemed
far-fetched, but Alex couldn't shake the feeling that there
was something special about it.
As the day came to an end, Alex packed up his things and
headed home.

His apartment was quiet and tidy, a stark contrast to the
chaos of the city outside. He settled onto the couch,
flipping through channels before finally landing on a
science documentary. He watched absentmindedly, his
mind wandering back to the journal and the possibilities it
held.

In the back of his mind, Alex felt a growing sense of
anticipation. Something was about to change, something
big. He couldn't explain it, but he knew that the ordinary
days he was so used to were about to become anything
but ordinary.
